Story
No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for Katy, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something she'll do again and now that they've made it through the rough patches, well, there's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they loved. With help coming from the most unlikely source and Adam's death still lingering with those who loved him, friends will become the deadliest of enemies and the villains will no longer be clear.

Story
When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien.

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door there was going to be trouble. Lots of it. And trouble's the last thing I need, since I'm not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet 13 billion light-years away. Plus, if there's one thing I know, it's that humans can't be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. Cuz they are.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her 18th birthday - to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner...and so is Aiden. If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training" - which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time - she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome - especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom - so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do - and sacrifice - for her.

Publisher's Summary
Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for Katy is more than a product of their bizarro connection. So she's sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But they've got bigger problems. The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that Katy and Daemon are linked, Katy's a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to Katy and he can help, but to do so, Katy has to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, Katy's falling for Daemon. Hard.
Katy's seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And she has to tell Daemon, even though he'll never stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them - from her?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies....

This was a great continuation of Daemon & Katy story. I loved learning so much about this "world" the author has created. This book was exciting and suspenseful and has so much sexual tension (teenage tension of course)! Katy is probably one of the best YA female leads in Paranormal I've ever read, she is a total bada$$. She is tough, strong and full of courage. Can't wait to read what happens next.
The narration was good, she is a little too old sounding for this story but after 2 books I've grown used to her and it doesn't bother me at all.

Please change the narrator!
The storyline is great. The narrator is TERRIBLE though. She pronounces Daemon’s name wrong, not to mention other words. She also sounds entirely too old to be in high school. Plus she cannot voice a male character. She sounds too nasally and like she is in pain the whole time. I love JLA though, and this entire series!

Decent story but weird narrator
I really didn’t like how the narrator did the male voices. I assume the main man’s voice was supposed to sound sexy but really just sounded pained and growly, as if she were going to start barking at any second. I’ll continue the series but probably not via audio.

Good Book. Awful Narrator
What did you like best about Onyx? What did you like least?
I feel the story was lacking in some way. Can't really pin point what it was, however it was entertaining and I will be listening to the next book to see what happens in the series!
How could the performance have been better?
I really dislike the narrator. She has a nasally quiet voice. Her inflections make me cringe at times. I think I would enjoy the book more if I read it or there was another narrator.

Interesting story...
Though it feels like it's being dragged out. I'm undecided as to whether it works or not. It's kept me entertained, anyway.
Narrator:
Justine Eyre: 2stars- It seems like she has a lot of mispronounced words. Her voices for other characters is mostly cringeworthy. Her male voices sound about 90years old. Her regular voice is too raspy, especially for a teen girl. Overall, I'm not a fan. I've only kept listening because it was in the romance package. It's definitely not worth a credit for audio.

The blame game
I had a lot of issues with this book, perhaps less then with the first one however, but the blame game at the end just really ruined it for me. In addition, the reluctant main charecter never follows her instincts - for two book now she falls into traps , never learning - not very endearing.

Better than the first book
so I didn't love the first book but I still needed to know what would happen with Daemon and Katy. This book has more action and more of a story line but it was still frustrating at times. How many times is Daemon going to put his hands on either side of Katy and lean in and almost kiss her. About 50 times in this book. Come one already! Talk about dragging the story out. And Katy is just an idiot in this book. I wanted to slap her so many times. I'm not even sure if I care what happens with her and Daemon anymore. But I'll probably read the next book anyway because I'm an idiot too. The narrator kills me though. Her Daemon voice is hysterical. I can't even hear what he's saying because it's so ridiculous.

Young adult sci fi
Book 2 in series. Must be read in order. Cliffhanger.
Genre is Young Adult. Plot is in the style of Twilight. Alien teen falls for human teen. Evil organizations threaten them and the alien race.
Even though YA is not my thing, I still enjoyed the characters and story. It does drag at times.
The narration is good.
Basically PG rated - some make out sessions but no sexy times really.
**SPOILERS**
I know it's dramatic and all, but I really hate it when a favourite character is killed off.
