Publisher's summary

Once upon a time, Monroe Sinclair was Brodan Adair's best friend, but now he's a stranger and one of Hollywood's leading men . . .

It took Monroe Sinclair eighteen years to return home to Ardnoch after a fateful night that devastated her friendship with Brodan Adair. Only a daughter's guilt could lure her back to the Highlands and the assumption that Brodan Adair rarely ever sets foot in their hometown. She can handle seeing the rest of the Adairs so long as she can avoid her ex-best friend and the only man she's ever loved.

Nothing is more important to Brodan than family, and only his demons have the power to keep him from them. For years, acting was something he was lucky enough to be good at, yet it wasn't his priority—Ardnoch and his siblings were. When exhaustion finally forces him back to the family fold, the last thing he wants is to encounter another ghost. But that's exactly what Monroe Sinclair has been to him.

The explosive connection that has always existed between them resurrects truths long buried. Yet, just when they might be on the brink of a second chance, the ghost from Brodan's past finally catches up to him and threatens not just their happiness, but their very lives.

Enjoyed this book

I have enjoyed all of Samantha Young’s books. I like how they go in sequence with the family.

Narrations of both Scottish and American characters done to perfection.

Brilliantly narrated, the perfect final story of the Adair family. No lie, Brodan will be quite unlikable at first but he certainly redeems himself. Monroe is a absolute delight and makes him grovel as he should.

The epilogue wrap ups are perfect.

Monroe & Brodan

Brodan is a famous movie star who has come home to power his battery, shall we say.
He isn't the nicest guy, and usually, I wouldn't say I like enemies-to-lovers stories. I wouldn't say I liked how he talked to Monroe, and I wouldn't say I liked how she spoke to him. All of those statements are true. But what I did like was how they apologized for their words and their actions, and not only did they speak the words, but they also embodied that and didn't let it happen again. They walked the walk as they say.

That bumped this book up a notch because of that, it wasn't dwelled on or brought up over and over again, which can be so annoying. So for that, I liked that they were adults about how they apologized and how they carried on moving forward.

I loved the scenes with each of the Adairs at the end of the book. It just made me realize how much I loved all of their stories.

Phenomenal narration from both narrators: I couldn't have asked for better, honestly.

Saved the best for last

Talk about saving the best for last! I *loved* this one. The pace works, even if the end is a bit rushed, but going from childhood friends to enemies to lovers is perfection. Brodan and Monroe are both such loveable imperfect people, but together they’re everything. I gasped far too many times, and the spice hit just right. The bonus epilogue with all the siblings was a nice touch, too!

This series is too formulaic

I love this author, especially the Dublin series, but this series is a bit too formulaic for my tastes very predictable plot :/
