Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss comes a story of friendship, romance, and growing into a love that was always there.

Rachel knew exactly what turning thirty would be like. She had a plan, after all. First college, then a climb up the professional ladder. Love, marriage, children. All of it was on the schedule.

The cheap Hollywood apartment wasn’t on the list. Neither was the string of heartbreaks. Or the effect her mother’s cancer had on her career.

It’s hard to stay practical and on point when everything takes a left turn.

Enter Sebastian, the nerd across the street. The boy she defended when he couldn’t defend himself. The best friend she promised she’d marry if life didn’t go according to plan.

Not only is he successful, confident, and gorgeous, but he also still has their handwritten marriage contract.

No one goes through with childhood wedding pacts.

That’s crazy.

But their families might just be crazy enough to rent a hall and set a date. All Rachel and Sebastian have to do is fall in love.

Good but not Great.

This book moved a bit slow for my taste. not your typical Fake marriage story. I enjoyed the ending but this isn't a story that I would relisten to. I times I wanted to skip ahead. I didn't quit reading altogether so that days something. I think that the Narrators brought this story to life .

Meh

I really wanted to like this book as I had some of the others by the author but I didn’t. Sebastien was too much of a push over. Rachel’s self esteem was not high. I can’t stand a weak female.

I always root for the good guy!

I’m so glad I picked this book up. I binged it listening all day at work. I loved the narrators and I loved Sebbie. I love a story about a good guy. A guy that is so in love with the girl that he fights for her, and doesn’t give up. Sebastian was a nerd who grew up and was gorgeous and successful now, but he never forgot the girl he loved. I loved him. This was a great light read that gave the feels.

A backup plan

Surprisingly, this is my first CD Reiss book. I know from what I've read this would not be considered a "typical" book by her. While I enjoyed Rachel and Sebastian's relationship, especially as kids, it was definitely rushed. I get that was sort of the plot but it just like wake up one morning and BAM! The epilogue for this book made it for me, it was perfect!! Loved narration by Andi Arndt & Brian Pallino <3

YES, I THINK I LIKED IT

This was the most confusing (to my senses) book I’ve ever listened to.. I was disappointed.. then happy, frustrated.. then calmed, ready to stop.. then got sucked further in.. and devastatingly torn.. then deliciously touched. It’s SO very different from any other book Ms Reiss has written before I’m sure. I was confused because the characters were confused about their jumbled feelings and they were getting married for all the wrong reasons.. however it was for the oh so blissfully right reasons in the end.

Sebastian (the hero) had been a skinny picked-on geek during high school and Rachel, his best friend at the time, had repeatedly swooped in to defend and save him.. they’d also made a contract that if they were both still single at 30 they’d marry each other. Time did what time so often does and now, approaching 30, they were meeting again for the first time in years. However the tables had 180’d on their lives and now Sebastian is a handsome, toned, successful man.. but Rachel is a shell of the person she’d been. She’d been dumped by her cheating ex, she hadn’t got her dream job and was hiding her static unfulfilled dreams behind a compliant mask of forced happiness. Even though Sebastian had a five year relationship he was still a virgin.. yet he expertly knew how to coax, tease and taste 1st to 3rd bases with rewarding results!! And Fate, the Stars, Destiny (and a potentially very sick mom) was about to change everything.. and this is the unique dual POV slow-burn story of how these two soul-mates stumbled, fought and finally found their way back to each other again.

Worth a credit? I’m still SO confused - I think I’ll give it two stars.. then I think it deserves five. I want to say no it’s not worth the credit.. then I want to say yes absolutely. Part of me thinks it was awkward, quite strange and underwhelming.. then I think it was actually sweet, touching, romantic and beautiful. I thought maybe I just didn’t personally like it.. but stayed awake til after 1 hooked. Rachel’s constant insecurities drove me mad at times.. nevertheless I still wanted to hear their HEA’s. Whatever I finally decide, this story flipped the ‘usual’ romance theme on its ass but still somehow it worked.. (maybe).

Romantic Revenge Of The Nerds ❤❤❤❤❤

A romantic love story as only Christine D Reiss can write. Smart, and sweet with a twist. Andi Arndt is perfect as Rachel the screenwriter and Brian Pallino's magnificent voice is fabulous as the billionaire nerd she's known since childhood. Love this book.
