A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.

She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.

Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.

Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.

And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?

But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear: Only one of them will return home alive.

I love this author. I did enjoy this story but I wouldn’t say it was the most thrilling ride.

Fun read - average story

Just when you thought you figured it out and maybe board of it, it grabs you in for a twist! Sit tight, it gets good!

nice lengthy twist

I keep telling myself I'll never read another one of these whole "stuck (at a cabin or resort or mansion or in the forest or in a snowstorm or whatever) with a bunch of ppl with a past & one of them is a killer..." It's just been done too many times. If you're going to do something that's been done over and over again, you need to bring something new to the table. Unfortunately, this wasn't anything I haven't read before, and the villain's motives were really far fetched. Too formulaic...it felt like an episode of NCIS. I knew two of the twists about Anonymous' identity almost immediately, but it's through process of elimination, because this was so formulaic, I identified the red herrings immediately & knew they weren't the villain just bc the suspicion was thrown onto them too obviously. I didn't get it all right, but enough of it to be annoyed by the predictably. The parts I didn't get right were only impossible bc there was some sudden information thrown in at the end that was unknowable & further, some of it was just so far-fetched and bizarre that you couldn't have guessed. That's not what a twist should be. Too many authors are falling into this trap of writing the story around the twist to the point where the twist isn't even fun. I gave 3 starts bc the performance was great, and the author's writing style is good enough that it held my attention, which is one of the biggest factors in my enjoyment of a book, but if you've heard even a few of the one ppl disappearing at a time and the killer is among us tropes, this one will probably not be anything you haven't heard.

Nothing New

Pretty slow and boring. I like a lot of her books, but this one isn’t great. The characters were unlikable and the story just dragged and was repetitive. Even the ending was pretty blah without a good twist.

Not her best
