Publisher's Summary

Blackmailed by his sister into giving a Christmas house party to celebrate her recent marriage, Edward Greyston, Marquess of Winterbourne, is quite certain the next few days will be an utter nightmare.

Nightmares, however, are something Edward is all too familiar with. After the bloody battle of Waterloo, he has returned from the war a changed man, full of rage and guilt.

Suspecting one of his house guests, the bluestocking Belinda Holbrook is about to trap unsuspecting and gullible Lord Nibley into marriage, he goes to warn him, only to get caught himself.

Furious but honor bound to do the right thing, Edward finds himself married to a woman he doesn't trust and knows nothing about, and he has no intention of trying to find out more.

Yet Belinda is made of sterner stuff and refuses to be afraid of the angry man she married. Somehow she determines to melt icy Lord Winterbourne's frozen heart, and she's prepared to be wicked to do it.

Emotionally fulfilling.

I’ve read every book in this series and hear it come alive with the astounding voice talent of Philip Bartley allowed me to fall in love with this book once more. Emma V. Leech put so much emotion into this story and Philip elevated it further by bringing the story to life with his soulful voice. I can say without a doubt that I will be listening to this book over and over till the next is released.

Wonderful

I have found a new favorite author. I have never read anything from EVL, but have now read all of the books on audible and can't wait for the entire series to be available.
The writing is honest, clear and does not use misunderstandings or odd characters to fill out the plot. In this novel the problems of the human condition are enough to drive the plot. The author also gives an amazing understanding of PTSD and how two people work through this issue with intelligence and love. The character development is great and it takes the reader along for a wonderful ride.
The narration is okay and a male voice for such a strong heroine works well.
I can't say enough about this book. I just loved it and would compare it with Mary Balaug/Loraine heath /lisa kleypas . A complex relationship that makes readers appreciate how love can help and heal.

If you want something more from your romances...

Edward is the marquess of Winterbourne and we quickly learn that he is suffering from PTSD (obviously they don't realise that's what it is, and we're guided through a very sensitive understanding of survivors guilt and mental trauma) after surviving the battle of Waterloo... when his men didn't. Belinda Holbrook is in family and home turmoil when Edward steps in to be a gentleman when circumstances arise, and it's the gentle yet heart wrenching battle to understanding and explaining and moving forward with his deeply rooted PTSD- and of course Belinda is crucial in this! If you want something more from your romances, try this one on for size.
Definitely worth getting the audiobook version as the narrator does an outstanding job capturing the emotions of the scenes.

Fantastic Story, Narrator Takes Getting Used To

As always with this author the story doesn’t disappoint and, in fact, I’d say this particular story is one of my favourite books of her historical series. My one negative would have to be the narrator. He reads the story well however his voice impressions of the characters takes some getting used to, the females in particular! However you find after a while you do not hear this as much and just get immersed in the fantastic world and narrative this author has a skill in making. Well worth buying and giving a go if you love this authors work and, like me, want to indulge your love of books whilst at the same time actually getting some work done!!
