Publisher's summary

A heartwarming novel about family, friendship, and finding your roots from RITA® winner M. Malone. The first book in a USA Today best-selling series. More than 100,000 copies sold!

Ridley Wells is done with men.

All she wants is to focus on her dream of opening her own nursery, but she has the opposite of a green thumb when it comes to love. She’s always been the “good twin” who played by all the rules waiting for Prince Charming to show up. Instead she is currently in hiding from her latest case of bad judgment.

So when there’s a teeny tiny case of mistaken identity, for once she decides to do the “wrong” thing.

Starting over was supposed to be simple, but Mr. Wrong turns out to be a grumpy single-dad with two highly energetic little boys. She was supposed to disappear and start a new life, but suddenly she’s wrapped up in a small town that feels more like home than any place she’s ever been, and walking in her sister’s shoes feels more like living than hiding in plain sight. Between two adorable kids and their misunderstood and distrusting father, Ridley isn’t sure who will steal her heart first. But one thing is clear, love can never bloom in the midst of lies.

And when her past comes for her, she can only hope her newfound roots are strong enough to hold her down.

Very good start to the series :D

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked Ridley and Jackson and their story was an enjoyable romance with a bit of action. This is the first book I've read by this author and based on this I'm likely to try more of her work in the future.

Ridley is in to plants and landscaping and has dreams of starting her own landscaping company. Ridley and her twin, Raine, grew up with a single mother that wasn't around a lot so they mothered each other and have always been there for each other. Ridley hired a man named David to find her father but then David died and weird things started happening. When someone broke in to her apartment she left town to stay with her sister for a while.

Jackson is a widower with 2 young sons that he loves dearly. He's also a music producer and tried dating after his wife died 3 years ago but had very bad luck. Jackson has decided he'll never look for permanent again and just dates with no strings attached.

Ridley gets to her sister's home in Virginia. She hadn't been there before but Raine sent her the alarm code info and where the spare key is. Unfortunately for Ridley, Raine's head of security had convinced her to change the code since then so when Ridley arrived she can't get in. She was very tired and hadn't eaten decent since she left for her sister's place a couple of days before and ends up passing out just as Jackson's 2 sons show up in her yard. Jackson's sons get him and Jackson, his brothers and some friends that were over visiting come to help as well. Ridley wakes up to a bunch of strangers but Jackson seems nice and thinks she's Raine, asking her why she's back early from her 2 week trip. Ridley wants to hide and Raine had changed her last name when she started modeling so there wasn't a lot to connect them so she lets Jackson and his friends think she's Raine. She accepts the offer of a place to stay the night since she's locked out. They try calling a locksmith but it's a holiday weekend and so they get no help there. Ridley tried calling Raine but can't get a hold of her so she decides to stay the night and then go to Raine's house as soon as she can.

Jackson has always appreciated Raine's looks but had never been attracted to her as a woman but suddenly he finds himself very interested. Unfortunately for him and Ridley, he makes a couple of jerky comments that put them at odds at first. Jackson does apologize though and he and Ridley get to a happy place where they're comfortable being around each other. They both have an attraction and want more but hold off. Jackson holds off because he usually goes only no-strings attached and he's not prepared to give more. Ridley holds off because she doesn;t like lying to Jackson and doesn't want to sleep with him while he doesn't know who she if. She does tall him part of her story but not everything at first and things do grow between them. Jackson's brother Nicholas makes some problems for Ridley though due to a love/hate thing he has going for Raine. Despite those issues, Ridley and Jackson do come together, at first saying it's just for the night but soon realizing they can't let go and extending it further. Unfortunately there is some drama that causes problems for the couple as well as some danger to Ridley. Thankfully they come through things in one piece and get their HEA in the end.

I enjoyed this story very much. Ridley was a really good heroine, I liked her very much. Jackson was a good hero but he did drop the ball at a crucial time which caused problems. I would have liked a bit more grovelling from him to get back in Ridley's good graces. Still, it was a very good story and I'm glad I read it. I'll probably read more of the series down the road. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up. :)

Excellent Book

I must admit, I have a lot of book's and this one kept my interest until the end, I listened to it in one day, I rated it no 5 because I couldn't find anything I didn't like in the book, I got it at a special price, I was kind of shocked that it was that good for $4.95, if you don't have it get it.

Enjoyable and entertaining. I really liked it

I really did enjoy this story a lot. It was a fun read/listen. I liked the heroine, Ridley a lot. She was sweet and just perfect for our hero Jackson.

The chemistry between them was very good. It was real and genuine, not forced and they didn't jump in to bed the minute they met each other. YAY for that. They got to know each other and the attraction grew. There is a couple of sex scenes in this book but it is NOT erotica. It's a little hot and steamy but not over the top at all. (I read some reviews that said this book was all about the sex and it was erotica. This is not true. Just want to clear that up for anyone wondering).

The story line and plot was great. There was a little mystery thrown in. Lots and lots of dialogue, great dialogue. The story flowed very nicely and was easy to follow along. Love all the secondary characters and am looking forward to the next book.

As for the narration, I thought Eva Kaminsky did a very good job. She has a very nice reading voice, I think she did a decent job on the men's voices (she could make them a little deeper and it would be even better). Pretty much everyone had their own distinct voice. All in all she did a really good job.

This is a great whispersync deal!

Audio bite w/a story of love and misunderstanding

Ridley Wells has no idea that her life is about to get more complicated than normal. She had a bit of trouble trailing her from one point to the next. She decides that her sister's house would be the perfect place to crash for a bit. She never expected to find more than she could dream of.

Jackson Alexander single dad, music producer, hottie. Totally. He never expected to find his neighbor passed out on the grass. He never had this intense attraction in any of their meetings. Something must be different.

What a way to meet the Alexanders. Proud. Protective. Resourceful. United.

The narrator did a good job. Eva allowed me to fall in love with new characters and a new author.

Has plot issues

Would you try another book from M. Malone and/or Eva Kaminsky?

Eva is a great narrator.

Any additional comments?

The story has plot issues and the writing needs better editing. Too many sentences start with pronouns and there is a lot of repeated words.

I usually have no issue with suspending disbelief but the storyline has to at least be plausable unless it’s PNR or UF.
The initial conflict that throws the couple together is completely stupid. In the real it just doesn’t hold water and simply doesn’t happen the way it’s set out in the story. The solution to the issue is improbable too.
The breaking issue is a reach at best. The coming back together at the end is rushed.

In the end, this is a 3 star story.

One More Great Book

I'm solidly sold on this series. Even as we get a sexy little love story, the author introduces other characters I am sure will be featured in more books to come. I'll be listening to more in this series for certain.
