Whiting, Indiana Saturday, August 27, 1955 Sunrise, 6:11 a.m. Its 80 degrees in the shade, and most of the city's residents are still trying to sleep off an airless, oppressive night. But inside the plant at Whiting's biggest employer (and one of the worlds largest oil refineries), something has gone horribly wrong, something that threatens to destroy the entire community.

The clock changes. 6:12 a.m.

This is the story of what happened at one minute after sunrise on that cataclysmic day in 1955, spoken in the words of the people who lived through it. Its the story of how, in the passing of a single instant, their lives and their community were changed forever.

The subject of this book was brand new to me, but interesting as I live 2 hours away from Whiting, Indiana. I like that the author covered all aspects of this explosion including the history of Standard Oil in the area, what led up to the explosion as well as all aspects of life and rebuilding after the explosion. The memories shared of those that lived through the explosion and the many ways that this affected their lives was, to me, the most interesting part of this story. Highly recommended listen!
Even though this narrator is new to audible, the narration of this story was perfect and easy to listen to. I would listen to anything he narrates.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
