Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times best-selling author Kendare Blake returns to New Sunnydale in this sequel to In Every Generation, set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Frankie Rosenberg is the world's first slayer-witch, but she doesn't have that slay-life balance figured out just yet. She's still reeling from the deadly explosion at the annual slayer retreat—and new evidence that some slayers may have survived. And while she's defeated her first Big Bad, Frankie soon realizes it was just a warm up act—and bigger, badder forces of evil are only just getting started.

The Hellmouth has been reawakened, inter-dimensional portals are opening, and an oracle warns of a new foe on its way: the Darkness. Could this be what attacked the slayers? And is it coming for Frankie?

So close and yet so far…

OMG, there are no words to describe how much I love this book!!!!!!!!! The actress reading this book is superb! She can truly capture the individual characters and I love how close to both Willow and Spike’s voice she was able to get! I am so happy that there is a continuation of the BtVS series and I’m looking forward to each new book! I just wish there was more between the protagonist and her love interest, I just feel like there could have been just a little more there!

This should be the new Buffy show!!!!

They keep talking about a reboot, and before these books I was completely opposed to it. But after reading these two books by Kendare Blake, i am all for a reboot!!!!I love the scoobie gang!!! They should follow this storyline!

Great sequel

Once again, I’m prefacing this with I’m a huge fan of the Buffyverse, so I might be seeing this through rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. I’ve also read Kendare Blake before, and I’ve generally liked what I’ve read.

In this second installment of this trilogy, we see Frankie and gang settle in and grow as they fight the demons and vampires drawn to the Hellmouth — most of them peaking Buffy nostalgiawith their familiarity.

While I absolutely love that Kendare brought in several beasties that we can recognize, I wish there was some more creativity, rather than bringing back and focusing on a certain aquatic demon. Mentioning them, like the others, sure, but making them a focus seems a little much. That said, it was well-done.

Surprisingly, Hailey, who arguably stole the show the first book, does not overshadow Frankie in this one — though it is clear that Hailey will play a major role in the next book, which is exciting.

It was refreshing to see Frankie be less focused on the Angel-like boy from the first book and truly see her start to take hold in her slayer power. I feel like I left this book knowing Frankie more, sympathizing with her more, and most importantly, excited to see the rest of her story.

As for Willow, Kendare left us sort of questioning in the last book whether or not Willow would be open to being bisexual or not, but she reaffirmed her iconic lesbian sexuality in this book.I know some people will be disappointed, because the writers and showrunners have said that if it weren’t for the “you have to pick one” attitude of many people in the 90s, Willow’s character would have been bi. Please remember that at the same time, it is important to many, many people that Willow is lesbian. She represents so much to so many people, and it’s beautiful that she is kept lesbian here. Everyone deserves representation.

All this said, I once again enjoyed how Kendare referenced the show, and I’m incredibly excited to see the next move of the new big bad in this series. I’m happy with this follow-up. And, I am excited for Hailey’s story arc, as well.

Still love Frankie & the new scoobies

While this story wasn’t as good as the first book, it was still a fun ride. The voice acting was still superb and definitely painted the perfect picture of every character. Good job all around!

Not disappointed

All I want is for Oz & Willow to just get married already. I’ve been waiting since they split up on the show. I loved her & Tara, but I’ve always felt her and Oz were end game. Did this book give me that? No. Was i disappointed? No. Why? Because the author has been doing an amazing job at bringing this world back to life. Hopefully we will get some of Dawn & Xanders daughter in any possible future installments.

Frankie rules the day. Much like Aunt Buffy

I love the book. Frankie is coming into her own. And Aunt Buffy would be proud. Destruction made me sad, but im looking forward to seeing where this goes. CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!! I hope Willow discovers she IS "on the spectrum" regarding her sexuality. A Poly relationship with Willow, Oz and Saraphina would be extremely interesting. and very inclusive.

Solid sequel

Fun continuation of the slayers next generation. Some of the nostalgia in this ones kinda clunky but still, fun all the same. Looking forward to the next one.

Great sequel!

Great follow-up story! can't wait for the 3rd to come out! The author writes in the Scoobies' voices very well and the narrator does a fantastic job bringing it all to life.
