In this portal fantasy, an accountant reincarnated as a fae assassin must battle, barter, and grind to survive in a world filled with magical dangers.

When forensic accountant SJ is crushed by a rogue tree on her way home from the local pub, her death is as absurd as it is abrupt. But fate has a twisted sense of humour: instead of being sentenced to eternal oblivion, SJ's reborn in Amathera—a vibrant fantasy landscape full of magic, monsters, and a game-like System that really wishes she hadn't read the fine print.

Armed with her sassy and overly sarcastic AI companion, Dave, and the questionable skills of a fae assassin, SJ is thrust into this mystical new world. But there's one problem: she never agreed to the terms and conditions, and now she's the one person operating completely free of the System's rules. Drawing the attention of local gods, dragons, and everything in between, she's destined to become an Amatherean celebrity.

With oddities such as high-level enemies and unique gear drops at every turn, finding her footing will be no easy task in this place where reputation matters. SJ will need Dave's guidance if she wants to level up and survive the challenges thrown her way. Only then can she help the inhabitants of her quaint starter town of Killic and begin to uncover the complex mysteries of Amathera.

And as outside pressures mount, SJ's starting to realize her death was only the first glitch in the System . . .

A fun story with some banter. It doesn't get to be super suspenseful so it's good for a more relaxing listen. Looking forward to the next one.

Fun story

I tried to stick it out and I know Dave is written to be annoying but the author did a bit too good of a job of it. an hour in and I skipped ahead ten chapters to see if Dave was still around, he was, so I think I'll have to give up.

I gave it 5 stars because it's technically what the author intended and is well written as such. Just personally I can't stand the annoying AI. everything else is great.

I can't listen to Dave anymore

Bosloe came out in his debut novel and crushed it. SJ is such a beautiful written and developed female lead character. Her charm and witty sarcasm are her highlight, that shines through her approach to each situation that comes before her. Dave her Ai assistant is nothing short than an excellent compliment to the entire story. Dave is a clear inspiration from Skippy from the SciFi hit Expeditionary Force. SJ and Dave's connection is the foundation of this comic filled fantasy adventure. Bosloe had a vision for this story and build a strong foundation. A creative approach as a FAE Assassin, clever, new, refreshing. This was my first full noval where Rebecca Woods took the lead, and she was nothing short of stunning. Her range was impressive, her care of the characters and approach was perfect. OFOTDN is a perfect addition to my bookshelf and a series I will happily be continuing. Highly recommend.

I hit play and didnt want to stop

I don't know what it was, but something about the narrator just made it difficult for me to stay engaged. I've listened to a few other books she's done, and this is the first one where I've had any issues with her, so idk why it bothered me here more than the others, but it felt, lacking.

I will say, that for the most part the story is interesting, and the world building is good enough. I generally found it good enough that I wanted to keep listening, despite the narration bothering me. it does however, run into the "subtle foreshadowing" meme problem, where the author is trying to build up suspense or something by giving us wayyyy more information about other characters and future events than the MC knows, which leads to things feeling overly predictable.

The MC has a generally unique race and class, that I hadn't really seen used anywhere else the same way, which is most of the reason I stuck with the book for as long as I did, but she's kind of dumb, and she consistently asks questions that people have already answered for her like she has no long term memory, which means we, the reader/listener, have to deal with getting beat over the head with exposition and plot that we already know.

I did enjoy the LitRPG joke, it was honestly a creative way to sneak something like that in there, without actually breaking the fourth wall, just poking it a little bit.

narrator, and minor story issues
