One bad roll catapults them into a new world...

Five friends, gamers for life, gather for their usual game night. Yet, when they use a strange new die they are transported to a fantasy world where all gaming ideas can come true.

Together, the party must join forces to deal with the vile Necrolord whose plans will not only threaten this world, but Earth as well. Should be easy for a team of adventurers, but when gaming and real life meet, there are situations which cannot be anticipated.

Will Samo use science to solve all her problems? Will Wyatt always resort to violence? Will Bourbon discover lost treasure? Will Falcon restore his kingdom. Will Melf, the bard, find his pants?

All questions and more will be answered in the Fifth Era Apocalypse! A new action-packed and hilarious LitRPG Adventure from Ryan Rimmel, bestselling author of Noobtown.

Meh

This book is okay at best. It feels a lot like a rip off of Robert Bevan’s Critical Failures series, just without the superior level of humor.

Waste of a Credit

I absolutely loved Noobtown 1 and 3, but this book is not so great. What the heck is going on? I've restarted this several times, made it a couple chapters in, and I'm lost. I love this narrator, but he couldn't rescue this convoluted story.

Dub-t-f It's good! Stop lying reviewers

Seriously, I don't understand when other people don't understand things. Call it a lack of empathy, but how could this confuse you?

Well written, good amount of nostalgia berries and references, supremely well narrated. Like off the charts narration. Like they've actually read ahead and understand what they're saying.

Hilarious

This is just as funny as Noobtown and voiced by the same narrator, it is like you're listening to the extended family of Noobtown characters. However they sound distinctly separate from their Noobtown counterparts which is very impressive to me.

I have not played table top RPGs and I know I must be missing some of the inside jokes about D&D. There's so much more laugh at that it doesn't matter. If you find humorous LitRPG to your liking then this book will be for you.

Eh…pass this one up!

Between the idiotic talk like a Barbadian to the rogue who talks like William Shatner the entire time. The story is not that interesting. It’s litRPG sure but there’s better ones out there. Move along and find another book. I don’t think I would continue this series.

Not for me

I kept having issues getting into the story. I loved the author's other series and thought this one would hit the same nerve. But there were to many instances of me not understanding how the characters got into a scenario seemingly off screen. At first I thought that I must have missed something while the book was playing while I worked, but it kept happening. The author is great, just not the book for me.

Wheels within Wheels

Loved the Slice of life aspect of the story, disliked the ‘sameness’ of each POV.

The pace took a bit to sink in but once it did…boom. Good stuff to listen to. I’ll be keeping my ears open for the sequel.

One bad roll is one good book.

First, this is not noobtown, it is something else, and it is good at being the thing it is.

So what is the thing? It is a classic LitRPG story where a group is pulled into a progression-aware world. Stats matter.

Let us talk humour, this book has Ryan Rimmils humour, and they are in great heaps all over the page, so much so some of it leaks out. There is even the same "f**K you rock" moment but a different moment with other words in a different order. I smiled so much that my whole day was better for it. Even now, I want a teeshirt with that phrase emblazoned on it.

So good writing an interesting story and fun group take over the lone edge lord.

Spoiler: Yes, there is an edge lord, and yes, he is the rouge. You can even see him in the cover art. Spoiler ends.

Let us talk about Johnathan McClain. He is awesome; the job done here is awesome. I want to meet Johnathan in an airport one day and buy the man a coffee while waiting for the fog-delayed flights. I know why it will fog. Trust me, I am an amateur fog-ologist.

Spend the credit it is worth it.

very realistic on a gamer group

the characters are a very real group. these characters display everything I experienced in table top gaming. those people are why I don't game anymore. and this author wrote it good bad and ugly. didn't like it that much.

DND is real

A few friends get together to play an RPG and get pulled into a world as their characters. I really feel sorry for the bard. Ken on top and Barbie on bottom, so he has nothing to work with.

thoroughly enjoyable, I wasn't expecting it

I chose to listen to this on impulse, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed the story. the narrator does an excellent job of narrating the multiple characters in this story. each of them sounds unique and have their own personality, which plays off really well with the other characters and have great internal conflicts with their real-life counterparts.
I will be listening to the sequel when it comes out.
recommended.

enjoyable

at first the story was a bit confusing with the characters dipping in and out of their game/real names. enjoyed the story though. narration, as always my mcclain, was top notch. Will be getting second book.

Oh my god, it's soooo boring

To start with, Noobtown is one of my favourite series, So I had high hopes for this.
But damn, I hate all the characters, they're so shallow and dull. Hell they're barely 1 dimensional.
I've got over 400 books in my audible library. This will be my second return.

fun story - great links fo noobtown

I really enjoyed this book (not as much as noobtown) but it was a fun listen. The characters are loveable, the battles are enjoyable some dawn right hilarious and the plot is interesting. I do plan on continuing this series but hope that the next book is longer.

Fun and familiar

The game rules are deliberately set out to remind us of a specific TTRPG. Fun story, nice characters with some development along the way, and a frightening yet enjoyable world to imagine oneself in. Loving everything by this author.

Dnd

Good book, but not not my cup of tea.
It really does feel like a DnD session

Good! Reminds me of a dnd game for sure!

First off, I would like to note that I have read through a lot of the other reviews, and feel that they are very harsh. This book surprised me on how much it felt like a dnd game. So if your not into dnd. This might not interest you.
Now, my review!
As stated, this book is literally a dnd game that has been transcribed, a bit of fantasy added to it (Spoilers they are pulled into the game and become their characters). But in a lot of ways, I felt as if I was there, watching the game unfold. The banter, the way each character reminded me either of a player I know, or someone I have heard of. Genius!
