Publisher's Summary

The first book in the Cowboy Fairytales series.

A princess on the run finds sanctuary where she least expects it....

After nearly dying in an assassination attempt, Princess Alessandra of Glorvaird escapes to a place no one would ever think to look for her: small town Oklahoma and a ranch staffed by a herd of wooly, uncouth cowboys. One cowboy in particular gets under her skin, until she sees his softer side. She knows this interlude can't last forever, but that doesn't stop her from wishing it might.

Former Navy SEAL Gideon Hale might've rescued the princess from freezing to death, but the soldier doesn't trust easily - or at all - especially when his gut tells him Alessandra is keeping secrets. But as Alessandra begins to fit into his life, he discovers another side to the princess - one that he can't help but like.

When Alessandra's enemies close in, Gideon must fight to save the woman who has become so much more than a princess.

Once Upon a Cowboy is a contemporary western retelling of the Snow White fairytale and is the first book in the Cowboy Fairytales series.

Unique Story About a Princess & a Cowboy!

This was a very unique story about a princess on the run for her life and a cowboy! It was different then anything I have read/listened so far. The story was short but very sweet. I would not have thought that a cowboy and a princess would have worked as well as It did.

The narration was well done and brought the story to life.

The characters were well developed for such a short story. It is a great start to a very unique series. The blend of rough and rugged cowboys with sophisticated wealthy princesses is unexpected but delightful. I'm looking forward to the next book in this sweet fairytales series.

The Princess finds her Cowboy?

Alessandra is a Princess visiting NYC when her bodyguard dies protecting her. On the run after the assassination attempt, she finds herself in the bed of a pickup truck in the Dallas airport. Gideon is at the airport to pick up his brother, Matt, who is on military leave. When they discover someone has stowed away in their truck, they really don't know what to think.

If you enjoy fairytale retellings, this is a pretty good book. However, I do have some problems with it. First of all, the blurb says that Alessandra winds up in Oklahoma, not Texas. How do you make such a mistake on a blurb? I was dissatisfied with the ending in a lot of ways. I imagine that the story continues in further books, but I felt like I was left hanging in the ending. Way too many things that were brought up throughout the book were never answered.

The narrator did a pretty good job, but as with a lot of female narrators, the men's voices just didn't work for me. If you are looking for a sweet, clean romance, this is enjoyable enough. I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

The narrator did a great job in bringing this fun story to life. And I look forward to listening/reading the next book in this series...

Recommended

An enjoyable novella about a princess who finds herself on a working ranch after an attempt on her life. I wasn't to certain at the beginning as some of the characters motivations and actions didn't appear to make much sense but am glad I hung in there. Although I knew this was a modern day fairytale it wasn't until the end that I really saw the parallel.

Although Lara Asmundson has a beautiful calm voice, I did not appreciate it so much in this setting. She reads the book very well but there is little inflection or pacing changes. There is little to no change in voices. I am pretty sure some of my confusion at the beginning was do to her rending.
