About this listen

In April 2013, Karin Konoval traveled by train to New Orleans for a four-month film shoot. While this story isn’t about the film, the fact that she was portraying an orangutan in it laid the path, in a unique way, for her personal journey beyond the work. On Constance is Karin’s memoir of this journey to and through the remarkable city of New Orleans, finding resonance and ultimately joy...in the most unexpected encounters and unlikely places.

Because I know Karin Konoval as an actor first, and a writer second, I decided to go with the audiobook. Great choice! I was interested in the book because I share the author's interest in our primate relatives, although her visits to primates makes up only a small portion of this book. This is a simple, heart felt recounting of her trip to New Orleans, where she spent several months filming. I loved it. Karin conveyed the atmosphere and the people beautifully. This book is a nice escape from one's busy life.
