Publisher's Summary

He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex, and it's one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page's life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She's determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan's worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot it refuses to be extinguished. For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

This is book five in the Off Series. While certain characters cross over from the Off Books, you do not need to hear the prior books to understand this one. This can be heard as a standalone.

Make Up Your Damn Mind

This was an interesting romance but it was hard to like Rowan. I just couldn't figure out what was so hard about falling for a handsome hero with a heart of gold. It's a good story but it took too long to show the chemistry between these two. I just didn't feel it for most of the story. While I did like this story well enough, so far it's my least favorite.

Again, these narrators did a good job. Matthew Holland nailed that New Jersey accent for Flynn. Charlotte North also did a decent job but sometimes Rowan had a southern accent (since she's from Texas) and sometimes she didn't. But all in all, it was a good listen.

It is worth the credit, but then again I seem to like all the audio books by Sawyer Bennett. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Okay, but...

I love this author. Not in love with this book, though. I agree with other reviewers that the heroine is unlikeable, but she doesn’t string the hero along for as long as some of the reviews makes it sound. Give it some time, if you can make it through the beginning, the book is worth a listen. Sexy firefighters. Steamy scenes. ‘Nuf said.

it was heartbreaking, yet super sweet

so I totally fell in love with Flynn, he was so sweet. Rowan thought she was broken and she almost lost everything because of it. but Flynn showed her what an amazing woman she was by being her friend. it was a great love story, with great narrators. loved the epilogue, would love to hear more about the characters sometimes. I need to know if Ever and Linc have a baby....ugh I loved these characters! great series!!

Conflicted

I am very conflicted. I really enjoyed the overall story but I could not stand Rowan's wishy-washy nature. I had to stop several times and go to the other things when I got too frustrated with her. I am rating the story 3-1/2 ⭐'s but rounding up to 4.

I truly enjoyed the narration. It really helped.

Another Five Star Story!

Sawyer Bennett writes some amazing stories, and this one is right up there in my top fave!

The narrators chosen for this series are fantastic. They are great with the accents and different tones to portray each character. Definitely some of the best narrating I've heard!

Flynn’s Story

Flynn is Nixon’s cousin from the book “Off the Record” and brother to Renner from “Off Course”.
He saves Rowan when he rescues her in an apartment fire. Someone had chained her to a bed and drugged her.
Flynn also suffers from a savior complex, hoping to ease his guilt over his girlfriend from high school dying in a house fire.
True to his nature he offers Rowan his spare bedroom as a place to regroup and recover.
There is much angst throughout the book mostly on Rowan’s part. She went back and forth on wanting Flynn, having copious sex with him, to wanting to be “just friends”, no benefits included. Truthfully I tired of the many times she pulled Flynn’s chain to the point of whiplash. Her last time of wanting the friends only relationship was one time too many. It seemed to this listener that the story was just being drawn out to meet the criteria of a book. I was bored to the point that I was hoping Flynn would meet someone who would REALLY appreciate his goodness and ditch Rowan.
As always, Matthew Holland’s performance was spot on.
So far, this was my least favorite book of this series, which is too bad because Flynn deserved a better story.

Flynn and Rowan rock

You won’t be disappointed in this book. The series is amazing and the way Ms Bennett carries each book into the next so flawlessly is awesome! Flynn has a hero complex and Rowan is just the girl to help him heal from his past hurt and him Hers. I couldn’t stop listening to it to see what happened next.

Started out as a pretty good story

Started out as a pretty good story but it gets old, fast! Rowan has this sweet, hot fireman wrapped around her pinky and she keeps denying the poor man! Who does that? He’s attentive, kind, gives her all the time in the world and she keeps shutting the poor man down. I kept hoping that he’d find a woman worthy of him. But we all know the ending. Then there’s the epilogue; Rowan goes from not wanting friends, relationships, having major trust issues to discussing with Flynn, her offering up her uterus for surrogacy for Linc and Ever. Just unbelievable. I get the author is trying to show us that Rowan is over her issues but that was over the top and then some. My favorite Off Series book is the one about Nix and Emily’s relationship.
