Publisher's Summary
Defy the inevitable. Such is the stance of Confederation captain Eric Weston and the crew of the starship Odysseus, patrolling the outer limits of Priminae space, anticipating the Empire's next attacks. Connected with the Terran FTL tech - the transition drive - humanity might stand a chance against the overwhelming forces. Until the entire planetary system goes dark.
Outnumbered and outgunned, the Odysseus arrives to find the Empire securing critical intelligence from Priminae ships - data that could prove disastrous in the wrong hands.
As the Odysseus enters the fray, the ship's systems exhibit increasingly chaotic glitches, while haunting apparitions stalk the crew. As they struggle to control their own ship - and their sanity - against the tide of battle, how can they hope to grasp victory when the Odysseus itself appears to be coming to life?

Disappointing, boring, and pointless.
The original series was been great, however this book and it's precursor have not been . Almost nothing happens in this book, lots of pointless story arcs and the main characters seem to have lost their strategy. The majority of the book is 1 battle where all the action takes place very early in that battle, then just a really prolonged chase scene. Hopefully the next book recovers but it's appearing as though Currie has lost what made this series great.

Might as well have been only a chapter.
I had really high hopes for this series. But this, and the previous one, the series really took a nosedive. This last one tho, its basicly just ONE spacefight, and thats it. How the hell can you drag out ONE engagement for so long???
Its just too damn repetative...

I just don't care anymore.
This shouldn't even be a book. Almost the entirety of this abomination is one space fight. No character development, no moving the plot forward, no answers to anything. Well good on the author I guess he got me for 5 other books. But, I will never purchase another one by him.

You can skip this book
Basically here is the story: They fight a single space battle with the imperial forces for the whole book. Pretty much like the last book. Nothing happens in the overall story arc.
Apparently Currie has decided to just milk the success of the first few books and not actually do any creative writing. This book has no character development, no story development. It is nothing but an agonizingly slow and detailed description of a space battle. Every laser beam and missile is described, every ship movement. GAH! I zoned out during much of this book and didn't miss a thing. VERY disappointed in you Mr. Currie.

Doesn't move the plot forward
Any additional comments?
I wish the story arc would move forward. I like the author's ability to describe the battles well but it's too much. 7 out of the 9 hours of this book is one single battle that almost doesn't move the story forward. I would prefer swifter battles (I don't need every single move of every character described). I almost dread it now. The previous book was two giant battles. Even that is too slow. Battles add action but slow down story pacing.
Otherwise the narration is fine, although I noticed different pronunciation of some stuff and I preferred the narrator of the original 3 books as the captains tone changed quite a lot for example. If this narrator was the one narrating from the beginning, I would have no complains probably.

Very disappointed
I was really disappointed with this book as the plot is really inconsequential at the end. It was extremely short compared to the other books and essentially nothing happens. I love this series so this has come as a surprise. It just felt like the author was very lazy and couldn’t come up with a stronger plot. If you could call it that.

Close quarter battle with the Imperials
Another great story by Evan Currie. I've really enjoyed the series covering loads of different angles of war like space battle, ground assault and defence on planets and close quarters battle on another ship. Again the only frustrating thing has been the narrator not being consistent with his character voices. I will continue to listen though as I need to know how the series ends.

Very good book - I like this universe, well designed characters and interesting plot. Overall very good audio book - light and pleasant story, very good to unwind.
