Definitely from another time and place

I gave 5 stars because how can one not give 5 stars to a fairytale which has survived more than 200 years. I am very glad to have finally read/listened to this complete original story.

I have not read the retelling by Alexandre Dumas yet, so I can’t compare, but in researching the history of this tale, it is said that this original version was “dark” and that Dumas made it more “sugary and magical”. I did not find anything about this story dark, or scary, or creepy.

This was a solid 1800’s child’s fairytale. In my opinion, written rather simply and one dimensional as most were in that period. Many confusing plot twists, some holes and outlandish portions. Yet cherishable because of what it is.
♥️The original Nutcracker fairytale♥️

For that reason alone, I give 5 stars and highly recommend reading/listening to this production. If anything, just to fully understand a lifetime of Nutcracker pop culture. (And to be able to say that you have!) ♥️♥️
