Publisher's Summary

Sawyer Smith’s life is a hot mess.

Hot, because he’s found six of his eight mates. To say things are heating up between them is putting it mildly.

A mess, because he’s the Chosen One, the son of a goddess with no powers of his own, tasked with fixing the broken magic in his world....And he has no clue how to do it.

With every new layer of mystery that's revealed, Sawyer's doubts about his abilities get stronger. To complicate matters, Sawyer is growing weaker by the day. Meanwhile, his newest guardian, the one he’s calling Yellow Eyes, refuses to reveal himself.

With time running out, Sawyer's desperate enough to make a daring move -- one that's potentially deadly for him and his mates. Because at the end of the day, if there’s nothing ventured, there’s nothing gained.

Things are developing!

Alright we’ve got a lot happening, a lot developing! Much was revealed in this book. More visits from Sawyer’s families, earthly and god ones. He’s figuring out what he is and what he can do, and what his powers could be. Things are coming together and I’m sure some stuff is about to go down, or might possibly hit the fan. All guardians are present now, so what’s the next step! I can’t wait to find out. And I don’t know if I’ve said this in any of the other reviews yet, but man do I love how growly Draco gets. Swoon!

Michael Dean is a freak! He is so so so good, what a talent. Love how he narrates.

The final guardian is found

Wow just Wow! Sawyer and his guardians seek the final guardian and encounter danger and unexpected revelations. With the ravens help they discover where he is and mount a rescue. Hard truths come out and the final battle is on the horizon. Talk about being caught up and mesmerized. I was so caught up on the story and cant wait until I hear the conclusion to the adventure. My fingers are crossed that love wins out. Need to go and listen now…

Love this series

I love the series so much! It’s one that does need to be read or listened to in order else it won’t make sense. I love finding out new things and there are so many secrets to find out and find answers to. I need to know what’s going to happen next. The narrator as always does a fantastic job with the story and the characters.

Another riveting addition!

I had such fun starting the series, that i binge-listened this over 2 weekends. Honestly, writing a synopsis at this point won't help you - if you're reading this know that the series is riveting experience, especially with Michael Dean as the narrator from the beginning. Excellent experience!

The awesome story continues!

Another great installment in one of my favorite series! I’ve read them several times but deciding to give listening a try and glad I did. Narrator does a great job, kept my attention and I didn’t find my attention wandering as it sometimes does with audio.
Whether you listen or read, be sure to go in chronological order. Check out the author’s website or fb group to find it. Definitely a series I recommend to anyone interested in MM+ and paranormal!

another mate and more revealed secrets

This series continues to be fun. I like how each character is unique. I cannot say that I am fond of the newest character introduced in this book but I am curious to know more about him. And the narration by Michael Dean continues to be excellent.

Keeps getting better!

This series keeps getting better! Sawyer and his mates/guardians are slowly putting the pieces together. And there is still plenty of heat between them. I am thoroughly enjoying the different types of characters and their very different personalities.

Guardians gathered

Sawyer has all his guardians now and I can’t wait until he figures out what he needs to do to fix everything that broke I didn’t really like Dakota much he hasn’t been anything but hostile really so far but I love pip he was hilarious it was interesting to finally find out what sawyers element and power are and to find out what sawyers guide is I’m looking forward to the conclusion and was glad to meet sawyers other brother especially since there was a lot of cuteness involved in some of his appearances

great characters, weak plot

this is where the series started losing steam for me. and no, not THAT kind of steam.

this was fourth installement was fine, and the whole mate thing is so OTT in a fun way, I still love that aspect of it.
I also have great affection for the characters, the main lineup and the secondary ones as well, but the overarching plot is losing me a bit.

So good

This series just keeps getting better. We get to meet a new mates. Even though one is really prickly. The other is super friendly and you can't help but love him. Sawyer once again learns new things about his past and the consequences of his actions.

the pieces are moving!

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio version of this book.

Read book 1 through 3 before this, and maybe the Hellhound series too! MAHOOSIVE spoiler alert for those books here! That said, I think I'll go back and read/listen to them too.

Guardian &, Dakota, finally makes an appearence, and Guardian 8, Pip, literally pops up right near the end. I liked him! He's cute and flirty, bit like Henry.

Things are coming to a head, though. Sawyer's brother is amassing his forces, as Sawyer tries to get to what it is he should be doing.

There are reasons that Dakota takes so long to warm to Sawyer, and once you get those reasons, things make a hell of a lot more sense!

Michael Dean's narration?? Cannot fault it. I mean CANNOT find a single thing that would make this a less than perfect review.

I have one more left, and I will be sad but given there are books in the Hellhound Champions series and the Chosen Champions series, and the short inbetween the main books here, I think I'm gonna be busy a while!

5 stars for the book and 5 for the narration, but seriously, I would give it more if I could.

Menage, Harem…? Let’s just say hot

In the last book, Sawyer discovered the fairy prince was not his mate (thank goodness). No, it’s the fairy prince’s bodyguard, Locke. Locke carries some deep secrets, but he’s quickly incorporated into the growing menage. He’s number six, and Sawyer is pretty sure the creature just beyond the view of the house is the seventh. He’s called by this creature, and wants to do right by him. But Dakota sees more than most, and is very wary.

Sawyer is being cared for by Cecil, but even those ministrations aren’t enough. He loses much of his power when he’s not surrounded by his mates – and there is one left to find. Will they find him in time? And why has Sawyer made the choices he has to this point? The finding of mates is proving a doable task – undoing the mess he created when he gave up his powers and took human form is not. But the final confrontation is coming, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.

Quick should out to Michael Dean who is doing an awesome job narrating this series and I can’t wait to see how it ends.

WOW

There are two more guardians to find. One is watching them and Sawyer is determined to get Yellow Eyes (Dakota) to come out of the woods and join them. Sawyer is not expecting Dakota's words and more is learned. As Sawyer grows weaker, there is much to learn. At the end, Pip will be beyond anything that you ever thought about. I absolutely adore Pip.

Michael Dean is amazing! So, amazing!

Amazing

This series gets better with each book. The first three books were fantastic, so I was looking forward to this one. I was not disappointed. It was exciting and this time Sawyer and his Guardians were on a quest to find the last Guardian. It's exciting, there are twists and turns that I didn't expect and I just love the protagonists! Each is sexy in its own way and yet all are fundamentally different.

Michael Dean has done a fantastic job. I am thrilled with him as the narrator of these series and he is a pleasure to listen to!

Title - Nothing Gained (The Chosen One #4)
Author - Macy Blake
Genre - MM Romance, Paranormal
Published - July 2019
Pages - 232

Sawyer has now found 6 of his eight guardians and mates and to say things are heating up is an understatement. Still reeling from finding out he's The Chosen One, son of a goddess but has no actual power of his own and is expected to fix the broken magic in his world Sawyer is a bit of a hot mess. He has no idea what he's meant to do and he's getting weaker by the day. To make things even more complicated there's another guardian out there who refuses to show himself.

Aagghh every time I think I can't fall more in love with this series I read the next book and BAM ... all the feels. Amazing story, with amazing characters. Wonderfully written, brilliant storytelling. This author has created such a wonderful world with amazing characters and plots, I find myself not wanting to leave.

Can't wait for the next one that's for sure.

Amazing!

I really enjoyed this instalment of the story, although the introduction of new characters and family members made my head spin a little. I am not sure if their stories/background are covered in other books, but there seemed to be just enough here to confuse. There also seemed to be some inconsistencies from the first book about Sawyer not knowing about the supernatural world, yet here he already knew that his brother was a lion shifter? Ignoring things like that, this is another fascinating and engaging chapter, as Sawyer finds the rest of his mates, learns more about his past and who he is, and struggles with the truth and his responsibilities.

Another excellent narration by Michael Dean really brings the characters to life.

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

No let up in steam or suspense

This amazing series just gets better and more intense with each book and here we are at the penultimate volume. We now have our final cadre of guardians although there are still secrets with some of them, we get lots more details of how the magic was broken and what Sawyer may have to do to fix things and all of this new information is carefully woven into the storyline so it never feels like we're just getting information dumps or padding. That is attributable to the skill of both the author and the narrator. Sawyer is not doing well in this book and there is clearly lots of work to be done if the final book is to have a happy ending. A do not miss performance by Michael Dean in this entire series and if you've been disappointed by series that just kind of petered out before, be assured this one will have you absorbed from first to last.

Great Continuation of the Story

Nothing Gained is the fourth book in the Chosen One series. It is really important to read the first three books in the series first before this one otherwise you won’t understand the plot. I also suggest reading the first three books in the Hellhound series and the short novella Double or Nothing. (I read the Chosen One series without reading these books first, and was able to follow along, but now that I’m going back and reading them, I realize how much richness of detail they add to the overall storyline.)

Wow - the twists and turns never cease. I was not expecting the accusations one of the new guardian threw at Sawyer. I think this bit of conflict and confrontation created more character development which added depth. I also know I’m just going to LOVE the newest guardian. Things are finally coming together and the bigger picture is being revealed. The next book is the last in the Chosen One series (but not the last in this world) and I’m excited to see the much anticipated conclusion.

The audiobook is narrated by Michael Dean who does a terrific job. There is a whole host of characters that span the paranormal spectrum, and Michael keeps them all distinct and unique. The audiobook production was well done and I enjoyed listening to it.
