Publisher's Summary

Jane Austen's first novel - published posthumously in 1818 - tells the story of Catherine Morland and her dangerously sweet nature, innocence, and sometime self-delusion. Though Austen's fallible heroine is repeatedly drawn into scrapes while vacationing at Bath and during her subsequent visit to Northanger Abbey, Catherine eventually triumphs, blossoming into a discerning woman who learns truths about love, life, and the heady power of literature. The satirical novel pokes fun at the gothic novel while earnestly emphasizing caution to the female sex.

Lives up to Jane!

When you listen to a book you have read repeatedly, it's hard for the audio to live up to the narration in your head. But I thoroughly enjoyed this. Much recommended!

Chapter Six is Missing...

It just completely skips over it. I’m so confused how a professionally published read can have this glaring a flaw. The reader does a decent job; she gets kind of obnoxious with the voices, but is effective enough.

Great story

l loved this book. The imagination of the young can get them into some difficult situations.

Good story badly read

This is one of my favourite Jane Austen novels but unfortunately it was ruined by a robotic-sounding narrator.

Classic tale - poorly narrated

As a fan of Jane Austen, I was expecting an entertaining listen. But to my disappointment the various characters were often so poorly differentiated that I struggled to understand who was speaking. And some of the voices so grating/annoying that I often wanted to skip forward, disturbing the flow of the story. Altogether a disappointing rendition of a true classic!
