Publisher's summary

In July 1970, actress Elaina Styles was slain in her rented Seattle mansion along with her husband and their son's nanny. When the baby's remains were found buried in a shallow grave close to a hippie commune, police moved in - only to find all its members already dead in a grisly mass suicide. Now, decades later, a film about the murders is shooting at the mansion. On-set caterer Laurie Trotter ignores gossip that the production is cursed. But then people start dying.... As Laurie digs deeper into what happened all those years ago, she discovers that the truth is more twisted than any whispered rumor, as a legacy of brutal vengeance reaches its terrifying climax.

Hard to follow

I have really been liking other books by this author, but for some reason I had a hard time keeping the story and characters straight in this particular book. It seemed a little bit convoluted. I still enjoyed it but was not able to get into the story as much.

Story great - narration lacking

I loved this storyline as most other O’Brien books but I didn’t like the narrators voice of the various characters. Lori sounded like an imbecile and others were just not believable

Kept me guessing until the end.

This book pretty much kept me guessing who did it until near the end. I usually can guess who did it earlier in the book. I found it a little hard to sympathize with Lori because she was a cheater. I'm former military, so I know about the whole deployment widows that cheat on their spouses while they are risking their lives for our country. Anyway, this story kept me interested, although again, the story didn't need to be 16 hrs long.

Not bad

Alot going on, not a bad story, ties up pretty neatly in the end. The narrator was okay.

great twisty story!! strange narrations

great story line, yet again by this author! he's a new one for me and I've enjoyed each one so far. my only complaint would be the narrators use of voices. I kept ringing that everyone sounded like Vizinni from Pri cess Bride!!! 🤣🤣

Another great one

I was worried at the beginning because of how many characters were introduced but as always the author tied them all together wonderfully for another spectacular book!

Too many storylines

The full story of rider didn’t need to follow her to Seattle. And some of the storylines were hard to follow.

This is O'Brien's best yet!

What about Jonathan Yen’s performance did you like?

Jonathan Yen gave an excellent performance. His tones, inflections, cadence and gravity hit the mark every step of the way.

Any additional comments?

This was Kevin O'Brien's best book to date. The book has two thriller plots going on simultaneously, each could have been a book in itself but together - WOW! When I first read the short description of this book I thought it sounded kind of contrived and wasn't sure this was going to work. Why in the world would a young woman working for a caterer play junior detective? This is a young single mother who moved to a new town, new job, people getting brutally murdered all around her - HELLO? Why would she stay? On top of that there is a looney who wants to pulverize her and take her young son in her home town looking for her. Next thing you know her face is on TV and still she stays. I kept thinking it can't work but to my surprise it did. Sorry I can't tell how or it would ruin the story so all I can say is GET THE BOOK! You won't regret it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
