Here is Jim Morrison in all his complexity-singer, philosopher, poet, delinquent-the brilliant, charismatic, and obsessed seeker who rejected authority in any form, the explorer who probed "the bounds of reality to see what would happen..." Seven years in the writing, this definitive biography is the work of two men whose empathy and experience with Jim Morrison uniquely prepared them to recount this modern tragedy: Jerry Hopkins, whose famous Presley biography, Elvis, was inspired by Morrison's suggestion, and Danny Sugerman, confidant of and aide to the Doors. With an afterword by Michael McClure.©1991 Danny Sugerman and Jerry Hopkins; (P)2006 Time Warner AudioBooks. All rights reserved. Biografías y Memorias Entretenimiento y Celebridades Inspirador

it was an easy non detailed story of Jim's Life. straight out of the Val Kilmer. movie. like a cliff note. accurate but couldve been longer.

Cliff Note

When I read this book 25 years ago it changed my life forever. I immediately became a massive Doors fan and to this day remain so. I was thrilled to find the late Danny Sugerman himself reading this abridgement so I instantly bought it. Danny Sugerman and Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek are THE ONLY ONES that should be permitted to read a Jim Morrison story since they are both such great tale tellers with unique voices and humour.

Most of the Lizard King's wild and bizarre moments are recounted here, even at the pathetic HEAVILY cut down length of 68 minutes. Unfortunately, most of the details behind the Doors music and albums are not mentioned. That is why this gets only 4 out of 5 stars from me. I wish that this abridged version would've been at least 2 or 3 hours long. This may've been cut so short because Sugerman was in poor health and nearing his own death when he recorded the audio just a few years ago.

Still, for the cheap price of less than $8, do your self a favor and BUY THIS! If you are new to The Doors and Jim's story interests you, buy the whole book at your local store: it's never been out of print in 26 years and counting now.

Excellent summary of the best Morrison book

Absolutely loved this. Loved it so much, I listened to it twice in a row. I'm a huge fan of The Doors & I've always found Jim Morrison to be a fascinating individual. The narration by Danny Sugerman set the perfect tone for a book like this. Honesty the only complaint I could possibly have is that it wasn't long enough.

Amazing

Okay so my girlfriend gave me this book to read because she's a die hard fan. I did enjoy the book but I think Jim is a difficult person to understand. He seems to be someone that is full of emotions and he seems like he can't contain that. Part of me is like "quit being a little b" but part of me also believes that he's just misunderstood. That depression can be such a dark cloud. I did enjoy the narrator very much, but this book did give me a lot of insight on his life. You don't have to be a fan of the band to read this book, it's actually well written and a fun little read.

This was like reading a Wikipedia page - super short and just the facts. Not even some poetry!
