Publisher's Summary

Here is Jim Morrison in all his complexity; singer, philosopher, poet, delinquent, the brilliant, charismatic, and obsessed seeker who rejected authority in any form, the explorer who probed "the bounds of reality to see what would happen".

This definitive biography is the work of two men whose empathy and experience with Jim Morrison uniquely prepared them to recount this modern tragedy: Jerry Hopkins, whose famous Presley biography, Elvis, was inspired by Morrison's suggestion; and Danny Sugerman, confidant of and aide to The Doors. Showing you the Lizard King as you've never seen him before, this classic best seller will take you through to the other side.

Abridged

I didn't look closely enough, I was expecting a full reading of the original book. Was disappointed at the length.

Excellent summary of the best Morrison book

When I read this book 25 years ago it changed my life forever. I immediately became a massive Doors fan and to this day remain so. I was thrilled to find the late Danny Sugerman himself reading this abridgement so I instantly bought it. Danny Sugerman and Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek are THE ONLY ONES that should be permitted to read a Jim Morrison story since they are both such great tale tellers with unique voices and humour.

Most of the Lizard King's wild and bizarre moments are recounted here, even at the pathetic HEAVILY cut down length of 68 minutes. Unfortunately, most of the details behind the Doors music and albums are not mentioned. That is why this gets only 4 out of 5 stars from me. I wish that this abridged version would've been at least 2 or 3 hours long. This may've been cut so short because Sugerman was in poor health and nearing his own death when he recorded the audio just a few years ago.

Still, for the cheap price of less than $8, do your self a favor and BUY THIS! If you are new to The Doors and Jim's story interests you, buy the whole book at your local store: it's never been out of print in 26 years and counting now.

Not a complete book.....

I was expecting a complete book when I bought this, but instead it is just a summary of his life. I read an autobiography of Jim more than 20 years ago and it was an amazing book that went into great details about his life. I thought this would be similar, but instead it is short enough to be considered a Wikipedia page on the man. Not worth the money and doesn’t do Jim justice.

Unabridged Please!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of No One Here Gets Out Alive to be better than the print version?

I loved the story, and the fact that Danny Sugerman was the narrator. I wish so badly that Audible carried the Unabridged version so I could take in the full story that Sugerman intended to tell. As far as teases go, this one was definitely worth my time!!! I highly recommend it to any Doors fan.

Complete garbage - abridged version

I loved this book in high school and was looking forward to revisiting it. However, this is a severely abridged version that removes all detail and most of Jim’s story, condensing 400 pages into an hour. Don’t waste your time and money on this.

Abridged version

No One Here Gets Out Alive was one of my favourite books as a teenager. I enjoyed Danny Sugarman’s reading, but was really disappointed that so much of the book was left out.

about an hour long.

I was expecting a typical 4+ hour audiobook. Had I known it was an hour long I would have passed.

Great content but this isn't the whole book

I got this audiobook because we're reading this book in a class of mine. I played it on my commute to school and even finished the whole thing and then got to class and flipped through the pages of a friend's only to notice that the audio is a fraction of the actual book. I'm extremely confused

Way to short!!!

This was a great story just not long enough. There is more to Jim’s story.

Abridged! The full is so much better

I have read the original book and the story was way more better then the abridged. Nuances are lost in this abridged version. Hopefully the full biography is available. I’ll be checking now and return this one

Disappointed.

Only- because it wasn't the full book being read out!
I have read the book many times and I was looking forward to hearing it all on audible.
Unfortunately the book has been segmented and lots of the true essence of jeem has not come through.
I truly hope Denny has another go at audiobook with no on here gets out alive, as I believe he is one of the most prominent figures as witness without bias to the life of Jim. All the other books I have about Jim have been self
Absorbed trash with the exception of ray mazeriks account.
For this book, still a great purchase and
Well worth a listen.
If you like the audio version of this book, and like it. You will love reading

Good overview but a little short.

First Biography of Jim that I have read so can't give any comments on how it matches up to others but the book is entertaining. It is a little short but that makes you want to read more Biographies so it provides a good introduction.

Much shortened version of the book

Didn't realise how abridged this actually was! Good book, but I wouldn't bother buying the audiobook, it's way too short

Disappointing

This lacked content and was more of an overview in comparison to other versions of Jim's life.
