NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • An explosive, deeply reported exposé of Johnson & Johnson, one of America’s oldest and most trusted pharmaceutical companies—from an award-winning investigative journalist

“A damning portrait.”—Associated Press

“A page-turning drama that raises life-or-death questions about the world’s largest healthcare conglomerate.”—Jonathan Eig, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of King: A Life

One day in 2004, Gardiner Harris, a pharmaceutical reporter for The New York Times, was early for a flight and sat down at an airport bar. He struck up a conversation with the woman on the barstool next to him, who happened to be a drug sales rep for Johnson & Johnson. Her horrific story about unethical sales practices and the devastating impact they’d had on her family fundamentally changed the nature of how Harris would cover the company—and the entire pharmaceutical industry—for the Times. His subsequent investigations and ongoing research since that very first conversation led to this book—a blistering exposé of a trusted American institution and the largest healthcare conglomerate in the world.

Harris takes us light-years away from the company’s image as the child-friendly “baby company” as he uncovers reams of evidence showing decades of deceitful and dangerous corporate practices that have threatened the lives of millions. He covers multiple disasters: lies and cover-ups regarding the link of Johnson’s Baby Powder to cancer, the surprising dangers of Tylenol, a criminal campaign to sell antipsychotics that have cost countless lives, a popular drug used to support cancer patients that actually increases the risk that cancer tumors will grow, and deceptive marketing that accelerated opioid addictions through their product Duragesic (fentanyl) that rival even those of the Sacklers and Purdue Pharma.

Filled with shocking and infuriating but utterly necessary revelations, No More Tears is a landmark work of investigative journalism that lays bare the deeply rooted corruption behind the image of babies bathing with a smile.©2025 Gardiner Harris (P)2025 Random House Audio

Reseñas de la Crítica

“In No More Tears: The Dark Secrets of Johnson & Johnson, veteran reporter Gardiner Harris uses his investigative skills to scrutinize the legacy of the company, as well as that of federal regulators. What he unveils is a damning portrait . . . a valuable history that’s not limited to Johnson & Johnson, and helps for a broader understanding of today’s health care system.”Associated Press

“Deeply researched and smartly written, No More Tears reveals the disturbing story behind one of America’s most trusted brands. Gardiner Harris has done a great service, giving us a page-turning drama that raises life-or-death questions about the world’s largest healthcare conglomerate.”—Jonathan Eig, Pulitzer Prize winning author of King: A Life

“Leave it to Gardiner Harris, the premier pharma reporter of his generation, to take on the industry’s leviathan, laying bare the ruthless soul of ‘America’s favorite company.’ Harris’s tour of the sausage factory is one that doctors, nurses, and their patients should all take, to see for themselves how the business of medicine really works.”—Benedict Carey, award-winning New York Times science correspondent and author of How We Learn

This is a must read. The author goes into great detail of what the company knew on various products, drugs and devices yet continued to promote and sell dangerous ones. Money comes first for J&J and other pharmaceutical companies. The book mentions several other companies and their "crimes against consumers" that are similar to J&J. Most people believe the FDA is a serious police force for these companies. In reality they lost funding over decades and are mainly funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately the "fox guarding the hen house" is costing the consumer. We end up with ineffective, unsafe, disabling and far too frequently deadly products.

Outstanding exposed of Johnson & Johnson and the FDA

This book does two things incredibly well. First, it exposes in thorough and fascinating detail the extreme greed, corruption, bribery, malfeasance, criminality, injuries and deaths knowingly caused by one of the largest companies in America. This alone is a task that many are unwilling, incapable or afraid of doing. Secondly, it does so in a brilliant, engaging style befitting a skilled reporter. I was fully engaged the entire listen. I think anyone who is interested in American capitalism, the healthcare system or individual health will find this book worth the read.

An Outstanding Expose

Disappointed to know what I know now. Enlightening read! High recommend. There’s a ton of data in this book. But worth listening to.

Haunting

I am far more educated, less naive, yet saddened by the failures on behalf of so many American entities.

Incredibly eye opening, a must read

A must read for every American! It revealed so much good information. I thought I knew a lot about the subject and the FDA, boy was I wrong!

How utterly corrupt they are!

Should be required reading for every medical, pharmacy, and nursing student, not to mention regulators and politicians.

Truth that is unfortunately worse than fiction.

This book was so disturbing that I had to put it down several times. I work in corporate America so I am familiar with their practices, but this is really next level. Heartbreaking

Horrifying but not surprising

This book will make your blood boil — and that’s exactly why you need to read it. No More Tears is a powerful, well-researched takedown of Johnson & Johnson, exposing years of greed, cover-ups, and outright lies. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, but I also couldn’t stop shaking my head. It’s infuriating to see how a company that built its reputation on trust and safety could betray that so completely. Gardiner Harris does a phenomenal job digging deep. This is essential reading — but don’t expect to walk away calm. You’ll be angry, and rightfully so.

Amazing book with interesting / crazy information in a well written / researched format.
Especially terrifying with the NIH and HHS firings / MAHA takeover - I was struck by how many doctors spoke out, but the lack of industry regulation / accountability

Why we need to put power in healthcare team

For once someone discloses the truth about a corrupt pharmaceutical company along with a complicit government. How sick and evil can these people get?

Evil, Evil, Evil
