Publisher's summary

Get a glimpse into the life of the late musician Keith Green through this revised, updated, and expanded 25th-anniversary edition of his inspiring biography, written by his wife, Melody.

American pianist, singer, and contemporary Christian songwriter Keith Green was only 28 when he died in a plane crash with two of his small children, but he had already created a legacy of music and inspiration that would outlive him. Keith touched people through vibrant lyrics in songs like "Your Love Broke Through", "You Put This Love in My Heart", and "Asleep in the Light".

In No Compromise, Melody has updated her husband's biography to include:

  • New never-before-seen photos
  • Essays from current musicians who Keith influenced
  • Selections from Keith’s private journal
  • Stories about what it’s like raising their two remaining children alone

A spiritual revolutionary, Keith found freedom through Jesus and spent his last years convincing others to refuse to accept the status quo and instead to bring compassion and honesty back to the church. Last Days Ministries, which he and his wife Melody founded, went on to challenge thousands of people to take to the mission fields of the world.

Now, on the 25th anniversary of his death, Melody has updated her husband's biography with new stories and insights about their life, photographs never before published, and glimpses into Melody’s season of grieving.

Inspiring man who represented Christ well

Most people don’t have a problem with Jesus, many people have a problem with his followers. Keith Green was a profit to the church calling them out for not representing Christ well. His life is an inspiration to those who desire to really know God and bring healing to the world. It’s a must listen.

Reunited with a much younger me!

I became a Christian in 1985 and right away I was led to the music of Keith Green. Oh how I loved his music and the Lord. After 37 years I had forgotten Keith’s music. Recently I stumbled upon it again. Again I felt young and I was loving the Lord more than usual. I had heard that Keith died in a plane crash, but I didn’t know anything about what happened. So I decided to listen to No Compromise and find out. As I listened to many hours, I began to feel closer to God again. I started to feel like God has big plans for me. Keith’s story exceeded all my expectations.

Keith Green’s music changed my life!

This book tells the story of a powerful servant of God. Keith Green’s music was a powerful tool in God’s hands to shape my walk with Jesus. I was a broken kid who needed lots of encouragement. Keith’s music was not only inspirational but deeply convicting. It changed my heart. I recommend this book to everyone. This man’s life needs to be known.

Great book, atrocious narration

I don't mean to be cruel, but the narration was so difficult to listen to, I almost returned the book. It's remarkably terrible. I'm pushing through, and enjoying the book as much as possible. It's a wonderful story. If you can get past the ridiculous voices the narrator makes every time a man is being quoted (which is quite a bit, as this is the biography of a man), and the out of place panic in her voice as she reads even the most mundane sentence, then you will enjoy this book.

What I didn't know

I grew up listening to Keith Green's music. My mom would play it as we worked in the kitchen or drove to church. because of these sweet memories I have a great fondness for the music and the man, but I didn't know him. after listening to Melody Green's recounting of their time together I have a new appreciation for these two wonderful people, but even more for the amazing God who made them and loved them. it's awesome to think that he wants to give me such life changing love, that he wants to give it too us all. Thank you Ms. Melody for writing this book, but most of all for loving God.

Wow!

Incredible book. I was already a fan of Keith Green but this book was so impactful. The story of his life has challenged mine very much.

The biography is life changing - BUT the narration is difficult to listen to

I will start with the narration because that truly is the only flaw with this. I have waited YEARS for this story to be on Audible! I was so excited to see it had finally been recorded! I am so sorry to say, however, that the narration feels and sounds rather robotic and very unnatural. EVERY sentence is expressed with a worried tone - it's like you are reading the suspenseful part of a suspense novel for the entire 16 hours. When I imagine Melody telling this story, it's like an old friend, telling me all about their life...unfortunately, this narration made me want to turn it off. And you can't imagine how heartbroken I am to say that. This is my favorite book!

On to the actual book - Keith Green's biography literally changed my husband's and my life. I grew up listening to Keith Green with my family, and introduced him to my husband when we were first married in 2001 (I must admit...he thought I was CRAZY at first! But he grew to love Keith's music for the truth-telling, and genuine content. Finally - songs that actually ministered the Word to people!) We bought the "Ministry Years" cds (remember those, fellow old-timers?) and my husband read the pdf version of the biography that came with the cds. He spent all of his lunch breaks reading it on his computer at work. He was so excited after he read it, he bought it for me, for my birthday.

We were absolutely believers, but we did not realize how lack-luster our love and devotion to the Lord was. Keith and Melody's story (and music) opened our eyes to the beauty and excitement of who He is, and what He desires of His bride. I give this book to everyone I know when the graduate high school - I pray that they will be as blessed as we have been.

I would like to share two small testimonials about how this book has impacted our lives.

We named our son "Josiah" for Keith and Melody's son...we had decided this 7 years before the Lord finally gave us one. Little did we know, our son would struggle with survival while in the womb. But the Lord not only gave me certainty that this boy would be born, He had already given us that name, knowing about these struggles. "Josiah" means "Yahweh heals". And He did indeed heal our son! All that to say - Keith and Melody (and their children) hold a dear place in our hearts.

My second testimony is also about one of our children. In 2018, I was 22 weeks pregnant with our little girl. I knew something was wrong, as I had not felt her moving as I usually did. Waiting for my doctor's appointment to confirm what my heart already knew was agony. I took a shower that day and just cried out to the Lord - please have mercy! Afterwards, I sat down in heartbreak..."What can I do, Lord? My baby is passing away into Your arms, but she's all alone. What can I do?" It was then that I thought, "I want her to hear Keith, singing her into heaven." I started playing his songs, and held the speaker to my belly. It was such a bittersweet comfort - I wept, and wept as I pictured this dear friend welcoming her into the kingdom.

There are other precious ways that Keith's life has, and continues to minister to our family - we are so thankful that Melody wrote everything down so that the Lord's kingdom could grow in miraculous ways! Thank you!

Inspired

I don’t know why I haven’t taken on this book sooner!!! Their music shaped my Christian walk - and how I miss such a message for the masses in these days except through his music and message legacy and rare individuals who are not ashamed to speak the truth boldly - for to do so IS love.

Loved the narration. She brought me deep into the story with passion and clarity.

This is a book I will buy for my people. Today.
