From the author of Shadow and Bone, now a hit NETFLIX series.

The smash New York Times bestseller from Leigh Bardugo, a mesmerizing tale of power, privilege, and dark magic set among the Ivy League elite. This program includes a bonus conversation with the author.

"The best fantasy novel I’ve read in years, because it’s about real people.... Impossible to put down." —Stephen King

"Bardugo’s latest is a must-listen, introducing a haunting, Yale-based occult world populated with gloriously complicated characters.... A win-win-win, honestly." —Paste, best audiobooks of 2019

Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Still searching for answers, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. Their eight windowless “tombs” are the well-known haunts of the rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street’s biggest players. But their occult activities are more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive. They tamper with forbidden magic. They raise the dead. And, sometimes, they prey on the living. A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Ninth House is the best fantasy novel I’ve read in years, because it’s about real people. Bardugo’s imaginative reach is brilliant, and this story—full of shocks and twists—is impossible to put down." - Stephen King

"Ninth House is one of the best fantasy novels I’ve read in years. This book is brilliant, funny, raw and utterly magnificent — it's a portal to a world you’ll never want to leave." - Lev Grossman, New York Times bestselling author of The Magicians

"Ninth House is the best thing I’ve read in a long time. There’s so much magic here that you'll begin to feel it seeping into the room around you as you read, and characters so real you ’ll practically hear their voices in your ear. Leigh Bardugo has written a book so delicious, so twisty, and so immersive I wouldn’t blame you for taking the day off to finish it." - Kelly Link, author of Magic for Beginners and Get in Trouble.

"Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House rocked my world. I could not get enough of sinewy, ghost-haunted Alex Stern, a heroine for the ages. With a bruised heart and bleeding knuckles, she risks death and damnation — again and again — for the people she cares about. I was cheering her on the whole way: from the first brilliant sentence of this book to the last. More, please, Ms. Bardugo." - Joe Hill, New York Times bestselling author of NOS4A2

"In this mesmerizing novel, Leigh Bardugo introduces us to Alex, a high-school dropout who gets a free ride to Yale because of a unique talent. Bardugo's New Haven is plausible and frightening, and I was one rapt reader." - Charlaine Harris, bestselling author of the True Blood series

"With an aura of both enchantment and authenticity, Bardugo's compulsively readable novel leaves a portal ajar for equally dazzling sequels." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Atmospheric...Part mystery, part story of a young woman finding purpose in a dark world." - Booklist (starred review)

"Genuinely terrific....The worldbuilding is rock solid, the plot is propulsive, and readers will be clamoring for a sequel as soon as they read the last page." - Library Journal (starred review)

"Excellent....Bardugo gives [her protagonist] a thoroughly engaging mix of rough edge, courage and cynicism." - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

The word "occult" is used in books and movies to conjure up dark, scary subjects, but it's about much more than horror. Occultism is defined by supernatural beliefs and practices, such as magic, mysticism, and spirituality. Basically, the occult refers to happenings that are beyond the range of everyday experience and logical explanation or fall outside the scope of religion and science. Ninth House was everything and more than what I was expecting. It was dark, gritty, and scary in a non-traditional horror way-but in a way that reminds us that sometimes the scariest monsters are living among us, cloaked as friends, family, and acquaintances. Highly recommend, but HEED THE TRIGGER WARNINGS if you need to because it is dark.

Audio: Lauren Fortgang - She's a stunner when it comes to narrating and Ninth House was no exception. Her cadence is perfect for the mood of the book and each character has their own distinct voice.

Fantastic adult debut!

I was worried about purchasing this book as others had commented that the timeline was confusing. It really wasn’t had for me to follow and the chapters were all clearly named. Great story - magical, adventures, conspiracies and mysteries to be solved. Overall a great story.

Timelines are not confusing

I liked the book enough to finish it. Ninth House was billed as an adult novel but I felt it belonged in the young adult genre. There were definite moments of creativity and plot twists, unfortunately the predictable end was a bit of a let down. The problem I find with today's authors is they cannot write likeable characters. I honestly did not care what happened to Alex.
Ninth House if a fun October read that I recommend to late teens /college age readers.

Ninth House, a home for young adult readers

This book was definitely geared to a more adult audience than the Greciaverse books. I loved it and cannot wait for the next one!!!

Amazing!

I super enjoyed this book. The characters where well fleshed out, you learned their foibles as the story unfolded. The narrator was fabulous. I had no problem with the storyline changing time, it was easily recognizable what period you were in - oh, and the chapter headings made it a no brainer.

Edgy and dark - loved it!

This book was amazing! A full on mystery/thriller running through a great paranormal fantasy. The book is rich in details and you can perfectly picture the campus and town.

I wasn’t a fan of the Shadow and Bones series but enjoyed Six of Crows. This is definitely more like Six of Crows, with a rich cast of characters and interesting backstories interweaving through the current plot. I’m salivating for a sequel.

Overall, good narration and I though both narrators put in character and texture. I think it was a production thing because regular speed has a LOT of long pauses. I bumped up to 1.1x speed and it sounded more natural. I thought 1.2x speed was too much.

Amazing but listen at 1.1 speed

I enjoyed the Grishaverse novels, but this book was on another level! I can't wait for the sequel.

What a cracking good story!

Loved it. Having grown up in Connecticut I am familiar with most of the references that were given in the book. It was great to see all these things in a different, more occult point of view. Very entertaining, with a good amount of twists in the storyline. Great read for anyone who likes Urban Fantasy.

Fascinating Blend of Magic with the Real World

I liked the premise, and world. I had trouble following and focusing for the majority of the book. Not sure if I was too distracted while listening, or story too drawn out with too much filler... But I'm intrigued now, and the 2nd book will likely end up in my library. I would say this is like a more serious, darker, more believable, and better Dresden Files.

mixed feelings, but overall positive

Everything Leigh Bardugo touches is gold! I want to be just like her when I grow up... Sigh... This is an absolute must read for all fantasy readers. It’s so real, it’s unreal. The endless possibilities of this (on a different perhaps) happening around us is mind blowing. The writing is distinct and vivid as always. I am thrilled that she wrapped it up so completely at the end, but opened up a new story to pursue in a sequel. 🤩

So real, it’s unreal!
