Explosions rock the city.
She didn’t believe in aliens.
But that didn’t prevent them from attacking Earth.
Her city is destroyed, her sister missing. Brooke Carter is determined to reclaim what the aliens have taken from her. Leading a small group of humans, she stumbles upon a crashed ship. Subsequently, she learns that there isn’t one group of aliens invading her world, but two.
Dante Balliol is a prince and heir from the planet Felidia. Caught unaware, him and his brother are captured by their enemies, the Terrapians. With the help of a small human, they manage to escape, but not before Dante’s ship is destroyed. Now, stranded on a primitive planet, he joins the humans in their quest to bring down the invaders and rescue the other captives.
Time is running out. Devastation surrounds them. Whole families are slaughtered. The two races must work together, or the entire planet will be lost.

Waking to what she believes to be an earthquake ex military, Brook, discovers that aliens do exist as she looks for her feisty little sister Aubree amidst the chaos and devastation. But Bree has already been captured by the invading and nasty, Terrapians. What Brooke does find is a crashed alien ship with human female survivors and another alien of catlike heritage but looking very human, and, unknown to her, heir to the Felidian throne and head of the galactic Coalition for Unity and Peace.
The writing is simple, the protagonists also. There is, however, a real charm in the getting-to-understand the social reactions between humans and Felidians as well as the interactions between male and female. Narrator, Kylah Williams, captures well the amused and superior puzzlement of the warrior prince, Dante, at the antics of the humans with whom he finds himself.
My thanks to the rights holder of New Dawn, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. After an initial confusion - so many women in different locations - I did find the book wryly amusing if somewhat simplistic. And how annoying is Brooke, the main female protagonist? This woman could surely never have seen military service. But would I continue to book two? I don't think so. Probably more aimed at teens and young adults and could make a fun, visual film.
"No such thing as aliens."
