The text of the books contained in The New American Bible is a completely new translation throughout. From the original and the oldest available texts of the sacred books, it aims to convey as directly as possible the thought and individual style of the inspired writers. The better understanding of Hebrew and Greek, the steady development of the science of textual criticism, and the fruit of patient study since the time of St. Jerome, have allowed the translators and editors in their use of all available materials to approach more closely than ever before the sense of what the sacred authors actually wrote.

The New American Bible has accomplished this in response to the need of the church in America today. It is the achievement of some 50 biblical scholars, the greater number of whom, though not all, are Catholics. In particular, the editors-in-chief have devoted 25 years to this work. The collaboration of scholars who are not Catholic fulfills the directive of the Second Vatican Council, not only that "correct translations be made into different languages especially from the original texts of the sacred books", but that, "with the approval of the church authority, these translations be produced in cooperation with separated brothers" so that "all Christians may be able to use them".

What made the experience of listening to New American Bible the most enjoyable?

I always wanted to read the Bible, but I have difficulty reading it. I had a Stroke 18 years ago and I don't remember what I read a minute ago. This reading to me, I remember....funny isn't it, but it is true.

I have not gotten read, but the Nativity is my favorite as well as the death and resurection.

Very good!

Great narration. I just wish it was divided according to the books of the Bible, with chapter titles. This seems like common sense to me.

Disappointing overall

It is always satisfying to listen to Bible readings (Faith comes from hearing), but I noticed so many added words which changed the meanings of Jesus' teaching and the experiences of Him and His disciples. In the end I decided that it distorted the Christian story and has to go.

Good narrator

The narrator read with warmth and feeling but it was not overdone. The actual text was allowed to stand on its own .

Excellent Narration

This is the best narration. At times I forget I’m listening to the Bible. The narrator is so artful and engaging. I’ve listened repeated times.

clear and concise

this was an easily comprehensible version of the New Testament. the speaker gives adequate gravitas to the subject-matter matter.

Good Narration

First time through the entire New Testament, the narrator was easy to listen to and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I will be using this audio book to study with, to read along with my printed copy. I just wish the recorded chapters were better organized with the Bible's books and chapters. So if you wanted to listen to a certain verse or chapter you could easily find it.

Audio of the New American Bible with the Revised Edition

The audio was clear at the words match with the NAB with the Revised Edition. It helps me remember the Bible when hearing with my ears and follow the text with my eyes at the same time. The bookmark feature is very handy for I can add bookmarks to the chapters and subjects I am interested in so that I can repeat hearing it again and again. I am so glad to use this tool to unlock the way of learning the Bible easier through repetition of hearing. I highly recommend this audio to those who want to learn the Bible the easiest way.

Inspiring

The Bible I have often sought for inspiration but I never sat down and read it all. Until now this audible edition was fantastic and allowed me to read the New Testament in about 3 weeks.
