Publisher's Summary
Christopher Ansley, Earl of Waxham, has constructed a perfect image for the ton - the ladies love him and his company is desired by all. Only two people know the truth about Waxham's secret. Unfortunately, one of them is Miss Sophie Winters.
Sophie Winters has known Christopher since she was in leading strings. As children, they delighted in tormenting each other. Now at one-and-twenty, she still has a tendency to find herself in scrapes, and her marital prospects are slim.
When his father threatens to expose his shame to the ton, unless he weds Sophie for her dowry, Christopher concocts a plan to remain a bachelor. What he didn't plan on, was falling in love with the lively, impetuous Sophie. As secrets are exposed, will Christopher's love be enough when she discovers his role in his father's scheme?

HMM.. Okay story.. Good narration.
This story was not nearly as good as the previous book. But I will listen to the next one.
I liked the characters well enough. Sophie did find herself in a few jams for sure and some of them were quite funny. I liked Waxham too. He was a decent character. The chemistry between the two was okay and there was a mildly written sex scene.
I just think that the story line and plot were just kind of meh and lacking.. Which caused the book to suffer a bit.
As for the narration, it was good. I like Tim Campbell. He does a good job on the female voices and everyone else gets their own distinct voice. He reads with emotion and does have a nice reading voice.

ENCHANTING!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
YES!!
What did you like best about this story?
The Dyslexia impairment that Christopher the Earl of Waxham suffered from in the year 1818
What does Tim Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love Tim Campbell's narrations he really know his voices and does very good female and male voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes when Christopher admitted that he had trouble reading to Sophie and that his father the Marquis was threating to put him in Bedlam if he didn't marry Sophie and obtain her dowry to use for the Marquis gaming debts. What a horrible father!!
Any additional comments?
I felt so bad for Christopher Earl of Waxham son of the very cruel mean Marquis of Milford. Poor Christopher has been badly abused by his father because he was dyslexic causing him not to be able to read. Now can you imagine this impediment in the year 1818? dyslexia wasn't even know at the time. Christopher has know Sophie Winters since her birth. There county seats adjoined each other. Sophie was very clumsy and a bit plump. She was always following Christopher around when they were children and the two would argue more like siblings then friends.
Years later they both have grown up and Sophie is in her 3rd season. She is always written up in Lady Ackerly's Tattle Sheet for her scandalous behavior. She is just very clumsy. While at a masquerade ball her and Christopher have a chance meeting in the library while escaping the crush of the ball. They do not recognize one another. But feel and immediate attraction and promise to meet at the end of the season if neither is married or betroth at that time.
Christopher's father the Marquis has acquire many gaming debts and is on the brink of financial ruin. He insist on Christopher courting and marrying Sophie who has a whapping huge dowry of 100,000.00 pounds. Christopher doesn't want to do this he thinks he dislikes the little annoying girl who gave him so much trouble growing up. He eventually agrees to a dinner invitation at Viscount Rebrooke's home Sophie's brother. This begins the lively and witty banter between the two. Christopher and Sophie are a perfect couple and I liked both of them very much. The storyline is believable and lighthearted. The romance as it grows into love was enchanting. I really enjoyed reading Never Courted Suddenly Wed and I Highly Recommend this story. I hope we to read the Duke of Mallens story soon.

The Age of Immaturity
2nd book in series lets us delve more into the characters of Christopher and Sophie. Christopher as an Earl and Marquis in waiting, is hiding his dyslexia ( un-named during the 1800’s), and his emotional abuse by his father by becoming charming and witty. Sophie is a social nightmare who lies constantly to get out of whatever she doesn’t feel like
doing at the time. It’s her 3rd season as a plump, outspoken, clumsy wallflower, and things aren’t looking any better for her as she continues to be a total mess.
The story of 2 emotionally stunted baggage ridden people falling in love is hard to write well. This falls short of the mark.

Silly book
A man who did not find any interest in a woman he had known all his life and finally sees the "plump" woman as all he had been looking for. That could happen. Yes. But this story did not develop that love well at all. I was very disappointed by the story and it's silly ending.

a very pleasant book
This is what a good story should have: great narration, solid story line, tension, HEA (at least for me), and characters one can feel sympathy for And, if not sympathy, at least something beyond boredom. This story scored high four me in all those areas. Of course, Caldwell's books are pretty much always a quarantee of a great read or listening opportunity.

Ridiculous or Stupid; or Both.
The story is based in fantasy land it is neither realistic or plausible.
The heroine is portraited as a bumbling idiot who take pleasure in her stupidity. Twenty minutes late to Almack's was "pushing out the boat".
The hero is a convenient back drop as the secondary characters seem to have more of a role. The Duke his friend who feels he need to protect him. His repellant father, her nagging, reparative mother and the brother who try to drown her as a child. It ended as badly as it began. Don't waste your money.
