Publisher's summary

Natural Hospital Birth, Updated Edition shows how to apply the guidelines and tactics of natural birth in a hospital setting, where 99 percent of births take place.

Many mothers-to-be find themselves torn between the desire for a natural childbirth with minimal medical intervention and the peace of mind offered by instant access to life-saving technology that only a hospital can provide. In Natural Hospital Birth, doula Cynthia Gabriel asserts that there is no good reason women should not be able to have both.

Cynthia shows expectant mothers what they can do to avoid unnecessary medical interventions and how to take initiative and consciously prepare for the kind of birth they want to have. Also included are inspiring stories from other women who know firsthand that natural birth in the hospital is possible.

With this audiobook, mothers-to-be will be equipped with the knowledge they need to ensure a satisfying hospital birth they will look back on with peace and joy.

I feel much more prepared

I really think this book is exactly what I needed. She did a great job of laying out all the information I need and how to converse with medical staff without demonizing medical staff. Helped me know why certain interventions are used in order to make informed decisions. Best book I’ve found about birth yet.

The Title Sounds Very General but the Content is Amazing!

This book is for anyone who has unanswered questions about going unmedicated in a typical American hospital setting. It gives guidance such as when to leave for the hospital and how to wade through necessary vs unnecessary interventions. If you had a past traumatic birth, this book is also for you! It helps to confront past issues that might thwart you from your goal of going unmedicated.

Helpful, beneficial and concise

I benefited it a lot from this book. It was realistic, on-point and very beneficial. It also gave me hope and made me feel very empowered by outlying the obstacles I may face by going for a natural hospital birth. I also loved that it was not repetitive or redundant like some of the other books focused on pregnancy preparation. I also loved how focused this book was on natural birth in a hospital setting, making it stand out among the birth preparation books. I also loved that the author was not self-centered or advocating/advertising for herself. She gained my trust from the very beginning by her genuine, sincere tone.

Well done!

Great Content

This book has lots of great content and gives you a LOT to think about in terms of what you want to occur at your birth and how best to communicate those wishes. I am in week 14 and have finished the book, and I plan to relisten once further into my pregnancy. I think this is a great resource to make one think about what they truly want and provide additional tips to make the day of birth go smoother (e.g. make sure your partner knows the answers to the general medical history questions). I would definitely recommend, especially for a first time mom-to-be like myself. I like to prepare for things, and this book makes me feel MUCH more prepared, even at this early stage.
