Publisher's Summary

Protect the rich. Serve the famous. Hunt the guilty.

NYPD Red is the elite, highly trained task force assigned to protect the rich, the famous, and the connected. And Detective Zach Jordan and his partner, Kylie MacDonald - the woman who broke his heart at the police academy - are the best of the best, brilliant, and tireless investigators who will stop at nothing to deliver justice.

Zach and Kylie's New Year's celebrations are cut short when they're called to the home of billionaire businessman Hunter Alden, Jr., after he makes a grisly discovery in his townhouse garage. When Alden's teenage son goes missing soon afterward, and his father seems oddly reluctant to find him, Zach and Kylie find themselves in the middle of a chilling conspiracy that threatens everyone in its wake - especially their city's most powerful citizens.

NYPD Red 3 is the next sensational novel in James Patterson's explosive new series, a thriller that goes behind the closed doors of New York high society and into the depths of depravity.

AWFUL!

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series. Lightweight crime story but entertaining. The second book wasn't quite as good yet bearable. However, this one is a hot mess! The plot line is all over the place, making no sense at all. Why would the city of NY expend resources for an elite squad to waste time and money on the ridiculous "crime" depicted here? Det. Zachary Jordan spends more time obsessing over wanting more sex with his police psychologist girlfriend and/or fantasizing about having ANY KIND of sex with his partner and unrequited love, Det. Kylie MacDonald. ENOUGH, ALREADY!

45 Stars So Far For NYPD Red!!

Wealth is a heat seeking missile.

Once again, Patterson and Karp cranked up the heat. Look, start this series at the beginning with NYPD/RED, then NYPD/RED2 before kicking up the volume on this installment. The relationship between Detectives Zack Gordon and Kylie MacDonald deserve to get savored from the start.

Except for that old… "The rich are different from you and me because they can afford to be" theme, there're are no cosmic issues here, no tours through the human psych, no complex internal monologues and dark introspection. Nope… These are forgettable fun police procedurals written by two gordo commercial artists at the peak of their powers.

There ain't nothin' NOT to like here if one of the reasons you read thrillers is to turn off the world for a time and let craftsmen (including the brilliant Edoardo Ballerini) entertain you.

Recommendation… Get it, listen, then pre-order the next installment of NYPD/RED. It's my fave series du jure.

My score so far… 15 stars for each book X 3 = 45 stars. Whoa!

Wait... What happened??

I just did not enjoy this at all. To be honest NYPD Red is a bit weak.

The love triangle between Zach & Kylie & Cheryl is so unnecessary. Three books into this installment it's still a topic but I think that's mainly because the storyline is thin otherwise.

I found myself distracted frequently while listening to this. It just was not good. Very thin and predictable story in my opinion. And the "Villain" was so weak! I figured it out very early on in the story and there was no real point of climax in this book. It seemed as if they were still building suspense and then in the next sentence everything unfolds and everything is resolved in the next paragraph then book ends with everyone living happily ever after.
Very disappointed that I wasted my credit on this.

Could have been better

Good, not great. Patterson used to be my favorite writer until he started doing too much. His stories were much more researched and thought out. Now they are good, but seem to be written to get them written, not because he loves writing them. Women's Murder Club series is still quality, but to me the others are missing that unique James Patterson edge that used to be there.

Great Addition to the NYPDRED Series

It is not uncommon for books in a series to decline in quality after the first 1 or 2 books. Not so in this case. The book was very enjoyable with a lot of nail-biting moments. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good cop story.
