Aldric knew from a young age that he was destined to become a mage. After running from home at the age of six he was taken in by the Arch Mage Lorelei Ironheart, and brought under her care and tutelage at the orphanage she runs with her husbands. There he learned the truth on how to become a mage, and how to gain the bonds that would become the family he always wanted.

However, his awakening doesn't go as expected and the Academy, where all mages for the Empire are taught, need to see him so they can evaluate what happened. He sets out with Lorelei and her husband Duncan, his best friend Zach, and his childhood crush Jordan, to learn his destiny.

What he learns there will forever change the course of his life and will have long lasting implications not only for him, but for the Empire at large.

Join Aldric as he struggles with the weight of the burden put on his shoulders and navigates the relationships he has to cultivate in order to succeed. He finds love, friends, and companionship. But also those that want to tear him down and destroy his chance at happiness.

Absolutely loved this and I really can’t wait for the next one to come out. *Edit* I have to knock a star off for the Jordan arc. That wasn’t enjoyable and took away from the story greatly. I really liked it up until that point.

A Damn Good Start

I really enjoyed this book. Eagerly waiting for book 2! Will be looking out for the author's future works.

The story was good

wish there was alittle more T&A but other then that this new book series is going to be the best of year. Only bad thing is having to wait for the next book to be released.

Different in the good way.

the female narrator is great. the male not so. story was well done. a lot more about the relationships than a lot of harem lit
the male narrator was voice cracking for the mc and way to nasally for some other characters

good book, poor make narrator

I read this book when it was released on KU, I enjoyed it there so I knew I’d enjoy listening to it. And in general I really did. Robin did a great job as the main narrator and the individual characters she did all sounded amazing.

Allen on the other hand, was absolutely terrible. He gave every male character high pitched whiney voices no matter what their roles were. Even when the story itself describes the characters as speaking in deep, smooth voice, Allen gives them whiney or crotchety old voices. He also seems to forget which character is speaking here and there, giving them the voices of other characters. I think the story going forward would be better off with just Robin, or a different male VA.

Really enjoyed it, minus the male VA

Overall I loved the book and the characters in it but I feel like the audio could have used some going over. while I wish the voicing for Aldrick was a bit better my biggest complaint are really small spots here and there. There are spot when the male narrator loses track of which character he's voicing and mixes voices as well as mistakes in gender when referring to a person. while thes issues are small I felt they happened more then they should have.

Great though

I respect the harem genre as an art form, but I don’t like it as a genre. Despite its popularity, I find few harem-based series genuinely appealing. I was hoping this book would be engaging, realistic, and entertaining, but after the first few chapters, I lost interest and was bored. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.

Sigh …
