Publisher's summary

In a fast-paced, brilliantly twisted novel of suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, the deadly secrets of a long-ago summer stir to life once more.

It starts as a prank - a way to blow off steam after a long summer at Camp Horseshoe. Among the teen counselors, tensions and hormones are running high. No wonder the others agree when Jo-Beth Chancellor suggests they scare Monica O'Neal a little.... or a lot. Monica has it coming, and no one will really get hurt. What could go wrong?

Everything.

Twenty years later, Lucas Dalton, a senior detective with the sheriff's department, is investigating the discovery of human remains in a cavern at what used to be Camp Horseshoe. Lucas knows the spot well. His father, a preacher, ran the camp, and Lucas worked there that infamous summer when two girls went missing. One is believed to have been killed by a convict on the loose. Monica O'Neal is thought to have drowned and been washed out to sea.

Lucas knows he should step down from such a personal case. He's already jeopardized his career by removing evidence of his involvement. But maybe it's time to uncover the whole truth at last. That's why five former female counselors are coming back to the small Oregon town - among them, Bernadette Warden, the woman Lucas has never forgotten. Each one knows something about that terrible night. Each promised not to tell. And as they reunite, a new horror unfolds. First come notes containing a personal memento and a simple, terrifying message: You will pay. Then, the murders begin.

It started years ago. But it will end here - as a web of lust, greed, and betrayal is untangled to reveal a killer waiting to enact the perfect revenge.

Waste of a credit. No mystery here, I figured it out before finishing first chapter.

The narrators were really bad. The only good thing about them was they didn't have a British accent. I don't see how this could be a Lisa Jackson book. The story repeated itself over and over until I would have to skip parts Just to make it bearable, and still never missed anything.not miss anything. Use your credit on something worthwhile.

Was that Siri?

The most horrendous reading of a book ever! The male was fine. The female robot destroyed the entire experience. Please redo this book. The story was good. I had to listen to find out "who dun it". Apparently no stars is not an option.

Simply Awful

This is the worst book that I've listened to in a long time. The narrator sounded like a valley girl, lots of story lines that the author thought clever but were trite and predictable, the romance cringeworthy, and overall, the worst of "mystery and suspense" story writing. It is my fault that I mix up this author with a good mystery writer, Lisa Gardner - from this point forward, it is a mistake that will never be repeated.

Painful!

Normally, I only write comments on books I like, adhering to the dictate "if you don't have anything good to say..." . However, this one is such a screaming turkey, I couldn't resist. There is not one likable or sympathetic character, in either their teen or adult versions. By the time they were all introduced, I found myself wishing someone had murdered ALL of them. You could get through this tedious slog more easily if you took a drink every time the word 'bitch' was used. Honestly, it was like being stranded at a very long, boring party with a group of insipid, superficial mean girls and their overheated boyfriends. The best line of the entire thing was "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program".

I wanted so bad to finish but COULD NOT

Any additional comments?

I tried I really tried...I want to know what happened, but the female narrator is just abhorrent beyond anything I can put into words. It got to a point that I could not figure out if the storyline was getting dumber and more cheesy or if it was the narration that was making everything sound so stupid? What a disappointment; especially in a Lisa Jackson novel.

made me feel sorry for the author

I haven't listened to a Lisa Jackson novel in a long time, but I was saddened by this one.
It seems that Miss Jackson has a twisted view of anything to do with God, and her novel shows it. Maybe she was deeply hurt in the past by a Christian?
Besides all of the cursing, the inappropriate behavior, and language (that isn't all that different from her earlier novels), this one was just too difficult to listen to.
As for the narrators, Scott Merriman was fine... hence the 3 stars. Teri Clark Linden was **awful**! Her voices and inflection were *okay* but please, PLEASE! Someone explain to her that when a word begins with a vowel (or a silent H) and ha ls 'the' in front of it, the E is long, not short!
She sounded utterly ridiculous saying, "the others" and "the inn" like "DUH" instead if "thee"! That and simple mispronunciations such as 'clap board' instead of 'clabberd' for clapboard siding among others had me gritting my teeth. WHERE WERE THE PROOF LISTENERS?!?!?!?!

pathetic

Would you try another book from Lisa Jackson and/or Scott Merriman and Teri Clark Linden ?

Awful book. The story is filled with pathetic utterly unredeemable characters who are variously vindictive, narcissistic, self-absorbed, bitter, jealous, ambitious, self-protective, lustful, disdainful, judgmental, domineering/submissive, manipulative, blackmailing and/or possessed of superiority or inferiority complexes. They are tedious and annoying, and the sex scenes are too pornographic for an average reader. This will be returned.

Would you ever listen to anything by Lisa Jackson again?

No.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Ordinary, comparatively speaking.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not for me.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to dozens. This is only the second I will have returned.
