Publisher's summary

“World-class nail-biter... [Allison] Brennan is in the groove with this one.” (Lee Child)

Six years ago, Lucy Kincaid was attacked and nearly killed by an online predator. She survived. Her attacker did not. Now Lucy’s goal is to join the FBI and fight cyber-crime, but in the meantime, she’s volunteering with a victim’s rights group, surfing the Web undercover to lure sex offenders into the hands of the law. But when the predators she hunts start turning up as murder victims, the FBI takes a whole new interest in Lucy.

With her future and possibly even her freedom suddenly in jeopardy, Lucy discovers she’s a pawn in someone’s twisted plot to mete out vigilante justice. She joins forces with security expert and daredevil Sean Rogan, and together they track their elusive quarry from anonymous online chat rooms onto the mean streets of Washington, D.C. But someone else is shadowing them: A merciless stalker has his savage eye on Lucy. The only way for her to escape his brutality may be another fight to the death.

What a silly book!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Actually Ann Marie Lee did a very good job!

What could Allison Brennan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make the characters more believable. It seems that she couldn't make up her mind about whether or not Lucy was a fragile person that needed people around her to lean on for support or was actually a strong independent woman. I wish she hadn't felt the need to put a romance in the story. That's what made it so silly. I felt like I was listening to a Harlequin romance.

What about Ann Marie Lee’s performance did you like?

She has a very nice voice and reads well

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Love Me to Death?

The sappy romance.

I wanted to like this.

I tried to like this story. I need a new series and stumble on this. The main character is really hard to relate to because the author has made her to be everything rolled up into one person: victim, Olympic athlete, computer genius, criminal profiler, psychologist, marksmen...the list goes on and on and on. The rest of the story wasn't any less cliche.

The internal character monologues are all way too long and over explain every plot point. Each monologue started to feel like teenage angst, but maybe that's the author's target audience?

I ended up skipping several chapters and didn't get lost. So a chapter turner, not so much a page turner.

If you want a good crime novel, this isn't it. But if you want lots and lots and lots of character development and internal turmoil, you'll like it.

The narrator did a good job. I can't fault her for the slow moving story.

FBI outrage against a vigilante group that is killing murdering rapists...

This book is narrated I’m pretty sure by someone trying to sound like Sofia from The Golden Girls.

The plot is so bad. The FBI starts an investigation to find a vigilante group that is taking out 1 rapist murderer at a time. All layered on top of a dreamy love story of a victim who had previously been kidnapped and raped, and has now applied to the FBI (application pending) and an alpha-dog private investigator. They ice skate. They kiss longingly in the moonlight. He gives her daisies. They tap the FBI investigation building.

Part of the weirdness of this plot was the FBI’s outrage against the vigilante group that is hunting down the rapist murderers. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like raping murderers and if a vigilante group is taking them out, I’m not particularly sad.

Way too much going on here, then the icing on the cake for my 1-star rating is that the narrator pronounces the word “data” as “daah-taah.” Um no, it’s “day-tah.” I know, I know...I’m too easily triggered, but you’ll see if you buy this book anyway after reading my review. 😂

Good story line

Would you try another book from Allison Brennan and/or Ann Marie Lee?

I liked the story but could not finish listening to it. The Narrator was horrible. She made every character sound the same..So I finished the book on my kindle reader.

Would you recommend Love Me to Death to your friends? Why or why not?

not on audio because the narrator did such a bad job, I could not stand to listen to her after the 2nd chapter.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ann Marie Lee’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I read the book on my kindle reader and loved the book.

Any additional comments?

redo all the audiobooks with a different narrator and I would listen to them.

Lucy Kincaid Series

Would you listen to Love Me to Death again? Why?

Yes. This is a book I know I will reread in the future!

What other book might you compare Love Me to Death to and why?

The entire Lucy Kincaid Series

What about Ann Marie Lee’s performance did you like?

I've listened to other books narrated by Ann Marie Lee and I'm always pleased by her performance. Her voice is pleasant to listen to and she adds the appropriate intensity to what she is narrating.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Surprise by the number of twists and turns

Any additional comments?

Beside The Lucy Kincaid Series I would definitely recommend Allison Brennan's FBI Trilogy

Badly Written Romance Masquerades as Thriller

This horrible waste of time is marketed as a mystery and thriller, but it's a badly written manipulative romance novel. Shallow characters that induce eye-rolling, a sadly underdeveloped subplot apparently written as filler--perhaps the author had too recently read "Kiss the Girls"- so poorly done as to be embarrassing. In fact, if this book were any more full of filler, it would be sold at Wal-Mart in giant bags of dog food. Don't waste your time.

Awful!

Didn't like it. Had no idea what was going on. . Am a fan of narrator but I would give a definate thumbs down for the whininess in her voice and the slow pace she chose to read. Confused because I didn't know the story of any of the characters, and you definately need to. Listening to the first one would have helped in understanding the premise in this one but I'm not sure I would have liked it even then. There was something about this weird killer in there, that there was a small part about, but I have no idea what happened to him/her because we were apparently supposed to be focused on this knight in shining armor/damsel in distress story between Sean and Lucy. I know I was close to the ending but I shut it off permanently without even caring about what I might have missed. Will not buy another of her books and would not recommend this one.

Another great story!

Enjoyed the characters, twists, and story line. Trigger-warning if you have/had a narcissistic toxic extreme person in you life.
