Nothing in Cree's experience as a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist or as a paranormal investigator has prepared her for Tommy Keeday's case. A talented young Navajo, Tommy has recently been exhibiting bizarre symptoms that his family believes are signs of possession by a chindi, a hostile spirit. As Cree struggles to find answers, she becomes increasingly aware that Tommy and the people who surround him have some deep and disturbing secrets.

The follow-up to City of Masks and Daniel Hecht's latest novel, the second in the Cree Black series is a thrillingly plausible supernatural mystery, a passionate love story, and a thoughtful exploration of Navajo culture and identity in modern America.

I felt this was not well plotted. It was hard to stay focused as the plot seemed to wander a bit while the author tried to work out the details. I loved City of Masks, and Land of Echoes was allright so I'll certainly grab the next Cree Black book I see, but I wish this had been better written and better edited.

Even so, it was worth the download.

Not equal to City of Masks, but OK

I had never heard of this author before listening to this book, but I bought the book because I like stories involving the South West and because of all the positive reviews. I was not dissappointed. This is a great read. It reminds me of a Tony Hillerman type of story, who is one of my favorite authors. Hecht is adept at character development with intrersting interpersonal relationships which are all set against a backdrop of an intriguing murder mystery. Definately worth the time and money if you like psychological thrillers.

A Pleasant Suprise

Wonderful story

Having recently enjoyed "City of Masks", I was really looking forward to the second Cree Black audio book and I have to say I wasn't disappointed.

The narration is simply excellent, probably one of the best I have heard, bringing the characters to life with a wide (but not forced) array of accents.

A strong story blending traditional and modern beliefs develops the story and characters introduced in "Masks", allowing us a little more into Cree's life and understanding her motivations and background.

If you enjoyed "City of Masks", I'm sure you'll enjoy this as much if not more.

If you haven't come across Cree Black before, start with "City of Masks" and then come here, you won't regret it!

Very, very good.

I really hope there will be more Cree Black books, but I don't see how they can get any better than Land of Echoes. The Native American theme was so brilliant and the story so gripping, that I had a hard time turning it off and going to sleep! The supernatural aspect was chilling and very well done. I came away from it feeling that I had been to New Mexico. One of my top ten favorite audio books to date. Anna Fields is great as the reader, also.

My favorite so far!
