Publisher's Summary

With unmatched suspense and emotional insight, Harlan Coben explores the big secrets and little lies that can destroy a relationship, a family, and even a town in this powerful new thriller.

Suburban New Jersey Detective Napoleon "Nap" Dumas hasn't been the same since senior year of high school, when his twin brother Leo and Leo's girlfriend Diana were found dead on the railroad tracks - and Maura, the girl Nap considered the love of his life, broke up with him and disappeared without explanation. For fifteen years, Nap has been searching, both for Maura and for the real reason behind his brother's death. And now, it looks as though he may finally find what he's been looking for.

When Maura's fingerprints turn up in the rental car of a suspected murderer, Nap embarks on a quest for answers that only leads to more questions - about the woman he loved, about the childhood friends he thought he knew, about the abandoned military base near where he grew up, and mostly about Leo and Diana - whose deaths are darker and far more sinister than Nap ever dared imagine.

    "a bit far-fetched, but good performance "

overall the storyline was a little unbelievable, however that's expected in this kind of story. the final revelations of the how and why we're pretty well hidden until the very end, but i had a strong hunch on the 'who' which unfortunately was correct. i didn't love the main character in the beginning, and felt sorry for him by the end. His constant talking to his dead brother felt a little obsessive, but that's part of the character so i got used to it (even if it did get a little annoying at times). a good vocal performance as he seems to nail the character and his personality very well.

    "Amazing narration"

The plot was good but not as good as Coben's other books. The overall experience was very satisfying due to the amazing narrator, Steven Weber. This is the first book I've listened by him and I enjoyed it so much that I started looking for his other books.

Steven weber is my new favorite narrator and I will keep looking for his narration from now on.

"Fabulous mixture of characters and plots!"

So different from many of Harlan Coben's other books (Myron Bolitar...but loved the cameo appearance)...Didn't know what to expect but I thought this was a fabulous book and is the exact reason why I am an Audible fan. Entertaining and engrossing and I make short work of these books because I listen in every spare second.

"Harlan, I love you but not this book!!"

My rating is a bit misleading because I hated this book. If minus zero stars were available that would have been my first choice.

This book feels like it was written under a contractural obligation (or diruess) because everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into the plot, with the hopes we will all get dizzy, thinking it is his normal twists and turns. I saw right through it including who the killer was and how it would end.

This was an all out assault on my mystery book "sixth senses" and I didn't like it at all. As a matter of fact I hated it.

Don't waste time and energy on this one. And, hate to say it but I will be skeptical next time but guess there is a first time for everything.

    "Don't Waste A Credit"

This was such a let down. The story was do convoluted and just bleh. The main character speaking to a deceased love one throughout the book added to my annoyance. This was really the weakest most uninteresting storyline. It doesn't feel like a Harlan Coben. My mind wandered so much while listening to this because it just wasn't good.

    "Very good"

While it’s not my favorite Harlan Coben book, I did enjoy it. The story seemed like a bit of a stretch, but I liked the characters and I loved the Myron cameo! Now if he can just get Win in there! Excellent narration as usual.

    "Entertaining but MAJOR loose ends!!!"

There were interesting twists I didn’t see coming. But there are loose ends that remained. Essentially half of the book wasn’t concluded. I don’t understand how the author could have ended with major plot points not resolved.

    "Technical problems?"

Sometimes the last part of a word was missing... actually quite a lot. Almost stopped listening.
