Publisher's Summary
When a murder hits close to home, Frank finds himself in an unusual position - the prime suspect in the latest installment of the national best-selling Gaslight Mystery series....
Frank and Sarah Malloy are enjoying married life and looking to make their family official by adopting Catherine, the child Sarah rescued and has been raising as her daughter. The newlyweds soon discover Parnell Vaughn, an actor and Catherine's legal father, is looking to fatten his pockets by insisting on a financial settlement to relinquish his parental rights. Even though exchanging money for a child is illegal, Frank and Sarah's love for Catherine drives them to take a chance.
When Frank returns with the money and finds Vaughn beaten to death, all evidence points to Frank as the culprit. A relatively unsuccessful actor with no money and little promise, Vaughn seems at first to be an unlikely candidate for murder - particularly such a violent crime of passion - but Frank soon uncovers backstage intrigue as dramatic as any that appears on stage.
Sarah and Frank must use all of their resources to investigate Vaughn's death as Frank's own life hangs in the balance.

Great Series / OK Book
I enjoyed this book because I love the series, but overall it didn’t really stand out. I’ve said on numerous occasions that I am more into the lives of the cast than I am in the murders. I’m all caught up with the series now, so I’ll have a long wait to go for Book 22!. I’m used to reading an instalment every couple of months with the occasional 3 – 4 – 5 books in a row binge.

Satisfying
I've read all the Gaslight mysteries and the best part is how all the recurring characters interact. Frank & Sara are just wonderful. The mysteries are almost always interesting and it's always fun to figure out who the murderer is. This one was pretty easy to solve, but it was still interesting.

Who thought the fact that Frank and Sarah want to adopt Catherine would lead to murder. I enjoyed listening to this book. Her charters are wonderfully written and read. EXCELLENT. WELL WRITTEN AS ALWAYS!
Very interesting mystery, Frank And Sarah once again solved a murder. The law during this period is rather strict and Victoria Thompson described the difficulties faced by people who want to adopt children very well. Suzanne Toren narrated/performed all the different characters and brought the story to life. A good continuation of the series.
