Publisher's summary

London, 1812. At a fashionable address in leafy Mayfair, a far cry from Detective Stephen Lavender’s usual haunts, a man is found dead in his room. He has been brutally stabbed, but the door is locked from the inside, and the weapon is missing.

The deceased is David MacAdam, an Essex businessman with expensive tastes. As Lavender and Constable Ned Woods travel between London and Chelmsford seeking to understand MacAdam’s final hours and unearth the grisly truth, they uncover a tangled web of deceit behind his stylish facade. The unusual circumstances of MacAdam’s death are nothing compared to the shady nature of his life, and it seems the house on Park Lane is at the heart of a dark conspiracy.

But when a second body turns up, everything they think they’ve learned is thrown into doubt. Can Lavender and Woods find out who’s behind these shocking murders before more lives are ruined?

Interesting Murder Mystery

I like murder mysteries and this was a good one. It wasn’t a page-turner but it made an interesting story. I got a little lost on who was who with the characters but the author did a good job of explaining where this person fit in.

Great series

I so enjoy the mysteries of detective Lavender. The plot and character development are engaging. I must say that I also enjoy the period when the mysteries are not filled with the f-word. How delightful that the author can use adjectives and words of exclamation without using that one over and over.

The narration is perfect. Delightful book and series.

Another great book in the Det. Lavender series.

Another great book in the Det. Lavender series. I got the audio version and Michael Page does a wonderful job. It was also neat that a couple places we visited on our UK trips and going to air shows were also mentioned. I wish there were more Det. Lavender books, but since there aren’t, I plan on reading Karen Charleton’s earlier books. Enjoy.

Very enjoyable!

Loved the development and continuation of both Stephen Lavender and his constable Ned. The mystery kept me guessing and enjoyed the many humorous moments.
