Ignazio Vitale is not a good man.

I suspect it the first time I see him, sense the air of danger that surrounds him. He has a way of commanding attention, of taking control, of knowing what I'm thinking before I even do.

It's alarming and alluring. It's dark and deadly. It's everything I've ever wanted but the last thing I truly need. Obsession.

It doesn't take him long to draw me into his web, charming me into his bed and trapping me in his life, a life I know nothing about until it's too late. He has secrets, secrets I can't fathom, secrets that make it so I can't walk away. I see it sometimes in his eyes, a darkness that's both terrifying and thrilling. He's a monster wrapped up in a pretty package, and what I find when I unmask him changes everything.

I want to hate him.

Sometimes I do.

But it doesn't stop me from loving him, too.

I can honestly say that the only reason I finished this book was because I had to for a book club. To be fair, it may not be the book's fault but my own. I have come to realize that I am simply not a fan of redundant storyline of a virginal young girl with the promiscuous best friend and gets swept away by the mysterious rich guy. I simply couldn't relate to it so it frustrated me. Who doesn't ask questions before agreeing to settle down with someone? Or gets completely shocked when finding out the real story? That is why I take full responsibility for this review perhaps being unfair. I have no patience for this amount of naïveté in a female who is out in the world... even at that age.

Similar storyline until the last 25% of the book

Definitely worth the credit. If I can be a bit picky. I think the pauses between chapters are a bit long but other than that I absolutely loved it.

Very good book!!

Where does Monster in His Eyes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would say it is in the middle of the ranking, not because of the story, because this narrator is not right for this character

Who was your favorite character and why?

NAZ - was my favorite, the ultimate bad guy who still had redeeming qualities and who still needed someone...you don't like what he's done, but you understand why.

Did Lynn Barrington do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No, unfortunately she is made for narrating women - she has a pleasant voice and is very listenable, but needs definitely to narrate female dominated books. NAZ needed someone else. I hope they narrate the next book and I hope someone else does it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are several moments where you can tell that Naz is finding relief and solace in his connection with Karissa - they are the moments that move me - as well as the engagement.

Any additional comments?

I believe most people but chronic sociopaths can be redeemed. I feel NAZ was a guy who dealt with his profound grief at a young age in the only way he could - and continue living. He felt he was doing his deceased wife and family justice in the way he was living. Karissa woke him up. I wish she was a little deeper but they understood each other and had an understanding much expressed without words - and I don't mean only sex, there was more than that. I believe for a NAZ type character you need a more masculine sound and this narrator just didn't have it. There are women who are excellent at conveying that tone but this narrator just didn't. I felt the story was diminished by it and it's one of the few I enjoyed that much more reading on my kindle than listening. Still hoping for an audible version of the 2nd book - it was very very good and I hate it when all books in a series are not narrated!

Fascinating Story

This is a book like no other. This story twisted and turned, and had me falling in love with the bad guy.

Incredible!
