Publisher's Summary

From beloved CBS Sunday Morning correspondent and humorist Mo Rocca, an entertaining and rigorously researched audiobook that celebrates the dead people who have long fascinated him.

Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries - reading about the remarkable lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who changed the world. But not every notable life has gotten the send-off it deserves. His quest to right that wrong inspired Mobituaries, his number one hit podcast. Now with Mobituaries, the audiobook, he has gone much further, with all new essays on artists, entertainers, sports stars, political pioneers, founding fathers, and more. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter...until now.

Take Herbert Hoover: Before he was president, he was the "Great Humanitarian", the man who saved tens of millions from starvation. But after less than a year in the White House, the stock market crashed, and all the good he had done seemed to be forgotten. Then, there’s Marlene Dietrich, well remembered as a screen goddess, less remembered as a great patriot. Alongside American servicemen on the front lines during World War II, she risked her life to help defeat the Nazis of her native Germany. And what about Billy Carter and history’s unruly presidential brothers? Were they ne'er-do-well liabilities...or secret weapons? Plus, Mobits for dead sports teams, dead countries, the dearly departed station wagon, and dragons. Yes, dragons.

Rocca is an expert researcher and storyteller. He draws on these skills here. With his dogged reporting and trademark wit, Rocca brings these men and women back to life like no one else can. Mobituaries is an insightful and unconventional account of the people who made life worth living for the rest of us, one that asks us to think about who gets remembered, and why.

Very good, but.....

some of it is a retelling from his podcast. If you have listened to his podcast episodes, some of the book you will already know. However, still well done.

Thoroughly enjoyed!!

This audiobook is delightful! I heard about people I hadn't thought about in years (if ever) Mo Rocca treats his subjects with respect and humor. I'm sure my fellow IKEA shoppers were wondering what I was chuckling about (or where my keeper had wandered off to.)

Podcast is better

I liked Mobituaries the book but it's really mostly a rehashing of the podcast. A few more details in the book probably stuff that was edited out of the podcast. Their were a few extra stories and facts presented here but honestly not worth the credit or price to listen. I was hoping when I bought the book that it would be a whole book on new obituaries that Moe had created. In the podcast you get interviews from those that were there and audio takes to listen from CBS archives and guest like Fred Amastad from SNL. I think Mo would do better to charge a small fee for podcast than to write a book.

I love ya' MO , but maybe.....

I have enjoyed Mo Rocca since I first saw him on Sunday Morning CBS. His book is filled with interesting facts and "the rest of the story" (as it has been said by another announcer}. I found the information interesting and worthy of Mo's skills of research and humor. My only negative comment is that for all of it's wonderful information, I had trouble with the "machine gun" delivery of so many facts and stories. Your one-at-a time Mobituaries on TV seem to make more of an impact, because your audience gets a chance to absorb the story and humor. It is slower, yet more effective in pieces. Keep on, keeping on Mo. It's all good "stuff".

Love this book

If you love history, you’ll love this book. Mo does an outstanding job of narration and the subjects in the book are well researched. I couldn’t put it down. Once I finished the book, I couldn’t help but love Mo too! I can’t wait for the next Mobit book.

I want more Mo!

I love Mo Rocca- he is so unassuming yet has this amazing collection of knowledge and experiences. If we weren't the same age, I'd really like to be him when I grow up!
