Publisher's Summary

Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady’s professional and personal lives collide when her college-age daughter is involved in a missing-persons case in this evocative and atmospheric mystery in J. A. Jance’s New York Times best-selling suspense series, set in the beautiful desert country of the American Southwest.

When Jennifer Brady returns to Northern Arizona University for her sophomore year, she quickly becomes a big sister to her new roommate, Beth Rankin, a brilliant yet sheltered 16-year-old freshman. For a homeschooled Beth, college is her first taste of both freedom and unfettered access to the internet, and Jenny is concerned that she’s too naïve and rebellious for her own good.

Her worries are well-founded because one day Beth vanishes, prompting Jenny to alert campus authorities, local police, and her mom, Sheriff Joanna Brady - who calls in a favor. Beth is found, but Jenny’s concern has unwittingly put her in the crosshairs of a criminal bent on revenge. With Christmas vacation approaching and Beth at war with her parents, Jenny invites Beth to the shelter of the Brady home. While Joanna is sympathetic, she’s caught up in a sensitive case - an officer-involved shooting that has placed the lives of two young children in jeopardy - leaving her stretched thin to help a fragile young woman recently gone missing and endangered.

So much potential then that voice

The story is there. The plot, the theme, the narrator ugh, the narrator?
We’ll just stop there because the narrator destroyed the book.
End of story!
And no refund!!!!

Love this series! BUT.....

First off, this is a wonderful series I always look forward to the next book. Quite honestly I wish it were already written and published.
This book is no exception-

HOWEVER!

Every time the medication used in the plot line is mentioned I cringe. I don’t wish to spoil the story for those of you who have yet to ‘read’ it, but the medication written into the script is for Motion Sickness.

Enough said, I hope that you enjoy the story. PLEASE look up the medication to educate yourselves though.

Editors of JA Janice’s J Brady series - where were you on this error?!

Missing and Endangered

Once again Jance has brought us a story that is within the times and brings forth information to our young people if today. The suspense of what one thought would happen changed course and once again one was guessing what would happen next.

A Pleasure of a read - maybe the best yet!

Once again we are given a wonderful story that shows the courage, humanity and bravery Peace Officers “on the job” provide. This is one of the best yet!

J.A. Jance has done it again.

I have read every book she has written. This ranks at the top of the list. She is always spot-on for timely topics to weave into a good mystery.

Multiple Story Lines grab and hold Attention

JA has painted a believable scenario for life as a small town sheriff that captures your attention, especially if you are already familar with Joanna Brady. This book drew me in immediately with one crime scene, but also indicated there woud be other concerns for the Sheriff, building the tension well. What's amazing is how the author weaves in back stories of various characters from previous books in the series so if you're a first time reader you still know the variety of relationships and understand the interactions. I particularly am impressed with the multiple plot lines, weaving them well. By allowing us to experience events through Joanna's point of view, character development is sharp. Myself, as a former personnel manager, I also enjoyed the thoughts and concerns of our main character concerning the needs of her staff and their families, as well as covering responsibilies and duties. Bravo!

Captivating

Couldn't put it down. Great detective work and real to life family life interactions well portrayed by a wonderful author. I admit I eagerly waitfor each new novel by J A Jance. They are most interesting time as a native born Tucsonian.

Keep em coming!

I love this whole series. I like how the author shows the strength of women in law enforcement, & she can have two different stories intertwine with not too much drama, just enough of everything.
