Publisher's Summary

The first official Minecraft novel! In the tradition of iconic adventures like Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island, the number one New York Times best-selling author of World War Z tells the story of a hero - stranded in the world of Minecraft - who must unravel the secrets of a mysterious island in order to survive.

Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore. Where am I? Who am I? And why is everything made of blocks? But there isn't much time to soak up the sun. It's getting dark, and there's a strange new world to explore!

The top priority is finding food. The next is not becoming food. Because there are others out there on the island...like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls. Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other. Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava? Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend: a cow.

In this world, the rules don't always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way. There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat. Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

Two editions, two narrators, one thrilling story. Enjoy this version read by Jack Black, and then be sure to check out the other available version narrated by Samira Wiley.

Max Brooks and Jack Black does it get any better..

It's a short but very enjoyable story. Jack Black does a great job narrating it. As a fan of minecraft I really didn't know what to expect. It was a good story that reminded me of all the fun I had when I first started playing the game. It's got the joy of figuring out crafting recipes, and the discovery of new items and areas. I highly recommend this to any fan of the game.

My three boys and I loved Jack Black's narration!

The story was laid out perfectly for the games actual progression, so it was fun to be able to identify with the character and understand each aspect that occurred. My oldest is 12, my middle son is 10, and my youngest is 6 and as there mom I have played the game together and found Mr. Black's narration to enrich the story line even more; we are really hoping he narrates the next one. Thank you!

Surprisingly good

Jack Black did a great job narrating. I'm 36 and enjoyed it, and my son who is 7 enjoyed it equally as much. Teaches kids valuable life lessons, which is a bonus.

Good for young minecraft fans

Younger minecraft fans will find a lot to love in this book. The earnestness of the lessons is more than a little heavy handed though. The narrative is thin. The novel is mainly a way to discuss minecraft mechanics and how they relate to these self-help life lessons.

A fun little book made better by Jack Black

I had been interested in the story for a while, and was thrilled to see it on Audible, narrated by Jack Black of all people. I wasn't disappointed. Jack Black made everything fun, and he was a good fit to narrate this story.

The book itself was pretty good. It's written in the form of a journal, and the way the character in the book makes discoveries almost makes it play out like an instruction manual for the game. The author does a great job at giving his characters personality. I felt for this poor guy, fending off zombies and trying to make sense of the confounding world of Minecraft. I felt plot was a bit weak, but if you enjoy playing Minecraft, I think it's a fun little read, and even better if you like Jack Black.

Kids, especially Boys 5 - 12 Love it

As a family we enjoyed listening to this audio book and reading along on our kindle during our road trips this summer. Some several hours to see family and sometimes just running errands starting and stopping as we turn family tasks into bonding time during the weekend. My sons, age 7 and 11 have heard this book several times and still go back to it as a favorite. My 9--year-old daughter also enjoys Minecraft and enjoyed this book. As a mom, the familiar voice of a modern actor and age-appropriate themes made it enjoyable as an engaging family activity.
