Publisher's Summary

The long-awaited sequel to Rejar. He was full-blooded and untamable. Sensual and sinuous. Erotically magnetic. A uniquely beautiful creature who could make himself irresistible to women. And he was feral at heart. With his glittering green and gold eyes, silken hair, and purring voice, the stunning captive chained to the wall was exactly what Jenise needed. And he was hers to take...Or so she believed. But she had never heard how dangerous it was to lie down with the cat.

Wish Dara Joy would finish her Matrix storyline!

I have read this book many times and really enjoyed the audio version. Dara Joy though just really needs to finish this storyline, especially Traed’s story, for her many fans but sadly I fear it will never happen.

Dara Got It!

Would you listen to Mine to Take again? Why?

It is a remarkable story to read and Rebecca Cook makes a good listen.

What other book might you compare Mine to Take to and why?

I am sorry that there are 3 additional books that have not been recorded.

Any additional comments?

sophmoric writing, cheesy eroticism

I've given lots of 4 and 5 stars and go thru a lot of books each month in the various romance genres, but even surviving several hours into this book, I was cringing at the dialogue, and after a while gritting my teeth.

There was so much 3rd person pre -commentating, eg "because of familiar' superior sense of [pick any superskill insert here] he was able to leap tall bounds/run at top speed for a full day/make her come with an exhale/tell someone was lying/detect intruders a mile away/decipher strange new languages" and so forth, that I started rolling my eyes.("Familiars" are the male lead's cat-like species).

I'm sorry to say it was very high school level writing.
The consistency of that simplistic phrasing-that conditional explanation before each narrative segment (I do not know what this is really called), had me irritated enough that I closed the book at 3.36 hours when 'he could make out something on the mountain..' [because] "familiar's eyesight was especially acute".

The other disappointment was the constant introduction of new people, things, entities that I just couldn't keep up with it. The author loves the sound of foreign words and it was so constant, I just started to ignore them to wait for the storyline of the two leads to continue.
Patricia Waddell does an excellent job with this kind of SciFi romance (altho without so much steamy sex), and she doesn't saturate the reader/listener with ridiculous names/titles/fake language speak for the sake of the sound.

If you enjoy Larissa Ione, Nalini Singh, or other top fantasy/paranormal, you may find this a let down in terms of sophistication of writing and plotline. There is much overlap in subject and elements like foreign worlds/planes of existence, foreign "species", paranormal abilities, and steamy sex, but the work of Ione and Singh aren't as self-consciously foreign and exotic as this book was.

This book relies on sex to drive a plot and all the characters and hides behind immature writing. Even though I'm an avid reader of steamy bodice-rippers, this really missed the mark if you are used to reading good stuff.

The narration was merely ok. Various of the evil character's voices were grating but likely consistent with the author's description. It just didn't, or couldn't help overcome the writing.

I cannot recommend this book.

Oh What a Cat

If you could sum up Mine to Take in three words, what would they be?

Hot, sexy, great

Who was your favorite character and why?

The hero, feline character

Which scene was your favorite?

When they first meet.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I waited a long time for this to come out in audio, so yes I did. In the 90's this was a very popular book at romance book stores.

Any additional comments?

It is a shame, Ms Joy never, that I know of, wrote the story of the cat that gets beaten.

Try It You'll Like It!

The male characters in this series are seriously delicious. They know what they want and go after it with a confidence that can't be matched and a will that brooks no argument. Like the two books preceding this one, the storyline in this book is quite entertaining. The intimate scenes are sexually arousing, yet tastefully descriptive. I've thoroughly enjoyed all three books in this series thus far!

Keep them coming Dara

I love this series, the characters are great, the many different character's lives and there destiny's brings so much scope for a continued series with so many options i will be always looking to see when Dara brings out the next one. It's refreshing to have a new book to a series that includes and continues the previous series books as this series so far has, Rejar was fantastic and so is this one. I absolutely loved the little alien guide, the humor in this series is quick and refreshing also. Narration is great also, which makes the difference alot of the time. Keep them coming Dara.

More please!!...

Very enjoyable 90‘s futuristic romance. Spicy, adventurous and interesting storyline. Wish there were more books in this series but Joy hasn‘t written anything really worthwhile since the late nineties. Ms Cook is a great narrator.

ridiculous voices

I absolutely love this story and have since I was 14. But the voices from this narrator for the different characters are absolutely ridiculous. If it wasn't such a good book, it would have ruined it.
