Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Publisher's summary
It's here! Number one best-selling author Stephenie Meyer makes a triumphant return to the world of Twilight with this highly anticipated companion: the iconic love story of Bella and Edward told from the vampire's point of view.
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward's past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?
In Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer transports us back to a world that has captivated millions of listeners and brings us an epic novel about the profound pleasures and devastating consequences of immortal love.

Only for TWI hard fans
Loved this story, I'm one of the middle aged person that has been waiting for a decade for this story. I truly hope that Stephanie will do all the story from Edward's POV as well, it rounds it well up.
In the beginning I hoped that it would be like Karen Lynch's Warrior and give us the full story in one book like Warrior did and was really disappointed it only gave us Edwards insight from Twilight. I'm most interested in what happened to him after that, especially when he was absent and right up to the end when it was presumably really hard for him.
But to wrap this up - loved it and will probably reread the next story now... Bitter sweetly as I wished it was from his POV and not Bella's.
Praise goes to Stephanie to finish the book for us after all the hassle.

For devoted fans
I like to reread the romances from "his" perspective. This story wasn't bad, though the first third seemed to be exactly the partial draft, made available all those years ago (for those who know it by heart - there was a little addition to that part).
The description of the Cullens' activities when Bella was out of the picture was interesting, but Edward's internal monologue seemed a little bit tedious at times. He is supposed to process all his thoughts in a fraction of a second, but for me it dragged. If I was reading I might have struggled to continue sometimes, so audiobook was a blessing, I guess. So as much as I would have liked to see the whole saga from Edward's perspective, I really can't imagine New Moon or even Eclipse that way.
I really liked Jasper in this book. In the saga his was the least developed character, apart from a brief introduction to his history in Eclipse, and the new insight into his abilities and relationship with the family was really pleasing. So if the author ever decided to further exploit the universe of Twilight, Jasper is character I'd like to know more about.

Don’t waste time or a credit on this. The narrator is good but the story is not a story. It’s an inner monologue- and not even a very interesting one.

Not yet Finished
At first I thought, what a great idea. Despite not being a teenager I enjoy the genre and the earlier books were good.
However, I'm stuck - currently on pause. I understand spending thousands of words on a single thought but is it too much?
Is 25 hours simply too long to retell a familiar story from a different point of view? There is some extra intel about character stories but sometimes I wonder how Meyer characters get out of bed in the morning - so much angst and self doubt.
I'm sure that I'll un pause at some stage, no doubt when I'm short of credits. But for now, phew.

Splendid as expected. I'm truly grateful for the darkness Edward displays, in my opinion it's the salt to his story. I'm anticipating the movie. The narrator was resplendent in his delivery. "Magnifico".

I love this book
I have to admit, I love Twilight unironically. It's such a crazy story if you think about the characters as real-life people (for example Bella thinking that Edward watching her sleep is acceptable behavior). However, it's also a story that I keep coming back to. The narrator did such a good job of interpreting each character's voice lines and bringing Edward's inner monologues to life. If you're a Twilight fan, I can't recommend this audiobook enough. 10/10.

creepy ramblings
I struggled to get through this book and only did so out of loyalty to my 12 year old self but damn, these are just over dramatic ramblings of a 100 year old teenager, I just...no. it left a bitter taste in my mouth as the pedophilic, stalker undertones were so loud. also the self indulgent self loathing of Edward is just so hard to read.

Interesting and somewhat funny but good
This book is half hilarious towards the beginning listening to edwards constant brooding if you don’t take it too seriously but god damn you just can’t put it down
It just gets better and better and I saw another review that said they wished there were more from his perspective and wasn’t sold on the idea before I started reading it thinking why would there need to be more but because it only covers the first book and it’s really good I now 100% agree
It’s so great learning more about each of the cullens especially emmett who is already just a 10/10 chad character but hearing his monologue is even funnier plus esmee who you really don’t know about in the books or movies, it makes all the relationships so much deeper and complex and is also good in the way that in the movie they can’t kiss but in this they kiss all the time lmao
If you don’t really like twilight then it may not be for you but if you’re a fan whether die hard or not it’s worth listening until the end

At last! (with certain reservations!)
I have waited a long time to hear Edward's side of the story (having read the leaked chapters way back when) and can't quite believe it is here at last!
I am loving hearing Twilight from Edward's pov and it has made me fall in love with him all over again.
I am finding the narrators voice pleasant enough overall, BUT (stop reading here if things get into your head) his lazy/mis-pronunciation of certain words is driving me insane!! I am only half way through the book and every time I hear 'di'nt' coul'nt, shoul'nt - I want to scream!! It's diDn't, coulDn't, shoulDn't - THERE'S A D IN THERE - SAY IT!!! It's getting to me so much that I want to applaud every time he say's a word ending in dn't correctly!
I kind of wish that I'd bought the book version rather than the audio because this is starting to distract me from the story, but I love my audiobooks, so I'm going to stick with it.
Maybe I'll download the kindle version and read it with Edward's perfect diction in my head......

Completely overwritten.
I rarely write reviews, especially bad ones but to save others 25hrs of their lives or a credit, I will this time.
This book was very difficult to get through. I loved the Twilight series and this book will ruin it for fans of the originals. It turns both Bella and Edward into truly unlikeable characters. Its way too long and familiar scenes from original are ruined by pages upon pages of painful inner monologue.
Some things are better left unfinished I think.

A how-to manual in narcissism
This is the story of a “young” vampire falling in love with a mortal girl. The vampire is exceptionally badly written, or at least that’s my hope. If it’s not accidental then this hero is a classic example of narcissism, domestic abuse, gas-lighting and all kinds of psychological problems. He is neither likeable nor relatable.
The narrator is not my personal choice and is way to ham for my liking. After 2 hours he was unpleasant to listen to by 24 hours I can’t write what I was thinking about him.
This is not a good book, it is worse than the preceding series and not worth listening to.

At 29, the 14 year old in me said OMG I LOVE HIM.
Warning, this review is totally lame, and I REALLY hope no one in RL sees it and knows it's me) - Okay, It's been a good 15 years since I read Twilight and fell blissfully in love with Edward Cullen - only for it to be completely destroyed by a movie (yes, I still hold the grudge). The movie broke my heart more than I care to admit... but when I saw that the full version of this would be released (yes I'm an OG who read it on her website way back when) - I couldn't resist. I must say it didn't disappoint, I flew through this. Sure, Edward is broody AF, moody, and stroppy - but I can forgive him. Mostly, this simply confirms how utter trash the movie was in my opinion - and confirmed that 14 year old me was indeed correct about my love of EC. He is everything I wanted him to be and more, and at 29 years old, I cried. Cried happy & sad tears for Bella, for him - and for that god-awful movie and how totally wrong it is. I firmly believe SM wrote this for girls like me, 29 almost 30ish girls who fell in love with a boy in a book, who really needed to see him again, mend that broken heart. Now, my heart is crushed by knowing what will happen in New Moon, so please - can we have an Edward version of the rest??

"Ran out of air"
Made me fall in love with Bella all over again - and surprisingly gave EC a personality. Absolutely brilliant. Better than I imagined.
And unbelievablly hilarious how Edward jumps from depressing and brooding to horny af within a few sentences 😂👏

Yawn, yawn!
What a disappointment... Edward is boring, the story is boring and I don’t understand why anyone would think this was anything other than boring. Loved the original series, but this lacks the storyline and intrigue... I was hoping for new plots and revelations that Bella did not know about, but it had nothing new worth 20hours of listening. Indeed, I now feel Edward is a melancholy bore not worth Bella’s time!

Poorly Written
Poorly written, not even two dimensional characters. I enjoyed all other work by this author.

Omg Jake is awesome
I remember how much I loved his performance in the Host so I was truly looking forward to listen to him here. He did not dissapoint! Also, the beginning message read by Stephanie killed me 😭 this was so iconic. I love this story with my whole heart! At first I felt like it would be too long but now that its over I am crying. Time to re watch all thr movies I suppose. 😭 I'm so happy yet so sad.

Is it just me?
Dear Edward Cullen Fan Club,
So I’m up to chapter 15 of midnight sun, and whilst I’m enjoying having those beloved characters back in my life in a way that is new and unknown, the voice is starting to really annoy me- wondering if this is just an audible thing or if reading this is making me love Edward less... how you ask?
He is coming across as a bit of a pussy, but not just a pussy but a needy lovefilled pussy.
I don’t know if I loved him so much in the books because he was brooding and mysterious and there was an edge of unknown that made you think “but does he really love her that much”, and so when you realise he does love Bella, you too feel like he is loving you unconditionally and seeing you fully, as you read.....
Now all the questions of what he was thinking are being answered and he doesn’t seem so scary and deep, he just seems weak and blinded by love.
But, then I think, maybe that’s actually just my perception of what is attractive in a man in love; one where affections are slightly guarded and mysterious. Or (most likely) maybe I’m holding on too tightly to this book during stage 4 COVID restrictions and it’s messing with my reviewability.
Regards,
Confused but hopeful

No words
Love this story but could not get through the 25 hours of being inside Edwards head analysing every single word, eye blink, hand movement and thought that Bella said or did not say. Needs more action and dialogue to move the story (we already know) along at a faster pace. Plus he constantly gushes over Bella and we get he is in love but its a bit OTT.
Only made it 5 hours in and couldn’t take it any longer.

Wish this story was new
There are so many untold elements of this twilight story,so was confused why this book told the same story we already have. It was frustrating to know exactly what was going to happen and have no surprises.
The story we all wanted was Jacob and Renesmee. Still in hope we can get this story at some point

good story but not a good narrator
I really looked forward to this book for so long and the story line is magnificent however the narrator let it down. I dont believe he had the right voice to be Edward needed someone a bit younger.

Worth the listen,
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, hearing from Edwards point of view really put some things into perspective. I didn't mind the narrator, he voiced the characters distinctively and had no trouble following. Personally, I think many people are caught up in the "voice" they think Edward would have so never really gave Jake a chance (which is common for most audible stories). If in doubt for the voice you can always listen to the sample (or do what I did and see if the audiobook is available at your local library and borrow it first)... and remember Edward may be in the body of a 17-year-old, but he's older and having a mature voice and attitude does match (its the movie that wasn't quite right, in my opinion) Overall, give the book a try because Meyer's writing ability has improved since she wrote the original twilight series and it definitely shows

Great Story, Wrong Narrator
The narrators voice is very wrong, I'm 5 hours in and just can't listen to him anymore.

Okay, so jogging through Central Park after midnight wasn't a bright idea. But Margrit Knight never thought she'd encounter a dark new world filled with magical beings, not to mention a dying woman and a mysterious stranger with blood on his hands. Her logical, lawyer instincts told her it couldn't all be real, but she could hardly deny what she'd seen...and touched.

Afterlife, just a place for an unhappy king to call home or soon to become a beacon of hope when a new waitress falls at his feet? The Gothic nightclub is about to welcome a new guest, and this time it is one he can’t control. As for Dominic Draven, the king of all supernatural life, handling just one little mortal named Keira should be no problem for him…right? Wrong! As she is his chosen one, she is not meant to be ruled by a domineering, overbearing, arrogant boss who is determined to keep her at arm’s length.
