Publisher's summary

My fiancé is screaming at me in public.

I'm used to it. My role here is to look pretty on his arm and to play nice so he doesn't hurt my sick daughter.

What I'm not used to is the man who comes to my rescue. Adrik Tasarov is a tall glass of gorgeous. He's got a jawline that could cut glass and eyes that could melt steel. Best of all: my fiancé is absolutely terrified of him.

So when Adrik asks me to dance, I say yes. When he asks me to do a little more than that, I say it again. Then comes the make-or-break moment. Adrik offers me a fake marriage to get me out of my real one. I say the two little words that seal my fate: "I do."

Little did I know I was signing a deal with the devil. Now, I'm a prisoner in a beautiful mansion. I can have anything I want—except for my freedom.

I have an ace up my sleeve. Something my fake husband doesn't know about. Something that will change everything. His baby in my belly.

Midnight Oath is the first book in the Tasarov Bratva duet from bestselling mafia romantic suspense author Naomi West. Adrik and Emery's story carries on into book two, Midnight Lies.

Wow!

While the FMC is super annoying (she did not need to be such a b!tch!!), the MMC did make progress during this book. Obviously this is a cliffy bc there’s a book 2. The narrators were good (although I wouldn’t say no to a different/better female narrator) and both had very good voices for each character. I do really like how Adrik really did so much for Isabella (Emory’s daughter) - I just can’t even with Emory’s behavior. The suspense and action rounds out the story and definitely leaves you hanging! Can’t wait for book 2!

Hot mess of story

This is a duet, so there is a cliffhanger. The narrators did an excellent job and I especially enjoyed Isabelle Turner's voice.

I just finished the book and I'm pissed that I spent 13+ hours. The MMC is awful. He spends the ENTIRE story threatening people and with the exception of 5 minutes later in the story, these characters displayed zero chemistry. I tried hard to like him because I felt like I could understand the regret and anger he held on to.

The FMC is an absolute idiot. For a single mother, she is incredibly incapable. This is especially true for one that is supposed to have a medically fragile child. There is no way this Mom wouldn't have more medical knowledge or ability to advocate for her child. You develop skills very quickly when you have a child that needs that much care.

Also, the FMC would internally acknowledge danger and then immediately say or do something that went against that. So many times I found myself shaking my head. There was no build up in the relationship - after 13 hours there should have been a spark or something that made me think the next book wouldn't be another dragged out series of issues that could have been cleared up with a simple conversation. I don't mind a rollercoaster story, but this was a train wreck.

Another weird point is that the main characters never talk about birth control...or even consider that she could get pregnant. In the story synopsis, it mentions that she's pregnant, but it wasn't even brought up in the book. I assume she *might* be from all of the sex, but that's it. There are no signs that she even considers it.

I have zero interest in the next book. I also have no desire to look into other books by this author. Don't waste your credit on this one unless you enjoy both main characters feeling like "the victim". This is not a romance book.

Hated it

No one is that stupid. Especially with her child and knowing that she was accosted. She would be far more apprehensive and reactive to men around her child. This book is hella inconsistent with someone who went through the kind of trauma that she went through. I know from experience
