Not What I Was Expecting

I think maybe my expectations were off when requesting this book. I was looking more for like strategies and guidance, not necessarily investment vehicles, which I can just look up on my own. The book is not bad, by any means, just wasn't what I thought it was.

introduction to investing

I thought this was going to be more about strategies for wealth building, but it was a very good overview of all of your options and investment categories. its a great beginning and very great educational resource to learn about how to start and various different considerations when starting to invest.

A jumping off point for things to look into

This is a decent book, but definitely not a comprehensive guide to where you should be investing and invested in by your 40s. It is a decent book for bringing up some things and the basics of what they entail, but you will have to do more research into any of these things. It is a great set of ideas to help you enrich your portfolio and some basic information to either bring to a financial manager or look into yourself. I think the book definitely brings you a lot of information and will give some good information or ideas to people, just don't expect it to lay out a yellow brick road for you to follow.

Great ideas, strategy

I just turned 50 this year, so I was very interested in listening to this guide. I'm blissfully uneducated when it comes to finances/investing, especially at my age, and this audiobook really had some great ideas and strategies to maximize your benefits.

I found this very useful, with some great info. Even with my little experience with any complicated finances, this was easy to understand and I think I'll definitely be taking some of the advice given!

Great audiobook, written and narrated well, all in all well worth it :)

a good overview but hardly a guide

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I found this to be a bit too high level to actually be useful. For the most part, this is just a high level overview of various investment vehicles. It is not going to actually teach you to utilize any of them effectively. I would recommend this for anyone looking to understand what these types of investments are, but would advise you to seek professional guidance before you delve into ANY of them.

It was ok, but I hoped for more

The chapter that discussed short term bonds was my favorite because it had the most practical takeaways of all of the chapters. The rest of the book was largely a series of overviews of various investment vehicles. Most of the discussion was high level so additional research would be required to completely understand or implement the ideas presented.

The author mentioned that there are definitely ways to time the stock market, yet did not share what any of those proven ways would entail. I do not believe timing the market consistently is possible, so I would have preferred the author to substantiate that position with evidence of some sort.

Only sparsely was there mention of being in your 40s. During the presentation of each type of investing, specific implications of being in your 40s did not come up.
