Publisher's Summary

Los Angeles - Jake London's ideal teen life is thrown into chaos when he discovers the ability to control a swarm of shape-shifting nanotechnology that has, until recently, lain dormant in his DNA.

Mechcraft is the skill of controlling the nanotech and summoning and creating tools, weapons, and even machines.

Being the first ever born with the nanotech, warring factions desire to use him for their own sinister ends. Now, with two Mechcraft agents at his side and a horde of enemies chasing them down, Jake finds himself in a desperate race to safety.

Will agents Bex and Trent be able to keep Jake safe against relentless Sasha? What unique powers will Jake be able to manifest?

He could put an end to the decades-old faction war or be the destroyer of all Mechcrafters.

This is a must have!

As a truck driver for over 25 years I have listen to literally thousands of audiobooks. I started listening way back when they were 'books on tape' and you occasionally had "smack the tape smartly on a flat surface" if wouldn't play correctly. So trust me when I say if you enjoy science fiction you need this book!
The author, to my understanding this is his first book, did an outstanding job creating characters that you care about and put them in situations that are exciting and gripping. I hope there still be more books.
The narrator of an audiobook can destroy a great story if done poorly or make a lackluster story become great. In this case I can honestly say I just found a narrator with a voice and delivery that if she read the phonebook to me I'd listen in rapt attention. A job very well done by both the author and the narrator!

Solid Sci-Fi YA novel

Being brutally honest, I am not all that into YA material. I'm approaching a half century mark, so it takes a lot for me to notice a tale that is made for the YA crowd. Why then, you ask, did I get this book? Because I had no idea it was of that style until after I was already well into the book itself, and by that point I didn't mind. I woun't say that YA is anathema to me, but I often skip it on principle. I'm really glad that I didn't do that here. The book is well crafted, and is a solid piece of literature that anyone can enjoy. So, because of that fact I really hesitate to consider this to be a YA book. It covers all ages seemlessly.

What really hits me is that this is the first book Fitzpatrick has written. The pacing, characters, and plot flawlessly weave together for a powerful story. This book aint for the weak kneed as there is a lot of action (just not all that bloody) and actually tackles some issues that you often want to avoid. The mech crafting itselfis pretty cool, and is a concept that I love. There was one weird part to the book that seemed like a summary, or maybe even notes (?) for an upcoming tale, but after we get past that it flows again. That is why I cut one star.

Kelly does a fine job narrating. I had not heard her before, and she is not as polished as some narrators, but she certainly handles the material and characters like a pro. I liked listening to her. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book!

I was hooked right from the beginning & had a hard time taking a break to do things. After I read the book & saw Brian had released the audible book, I just had to have it. I think I enjoyed the audible book better because of the great job Meghan did in narrating the story. Bravo, Brian! Can't wait for the next book. (It blows my mind that you are able to come up with all the details involved in the story. Amazing!)

Enjoyed!

The idea of being able to be injected with nanotech is beyond my scope of imagination. This is why we have excellent writers like Brian Fitzpatrick around! The cool idea of these nanotechs being able to be manipulate them to do your bidding...well...I would sign up for it, for sure!
The writing is excellent. The characters are well developed and believable and the way the story flows is fast paced and will grab you from the first!
I listened to the audio book version of this and, I have to admit, Meghan Kelly is the reason I picked it up. She is one of my favorite narrators. Her characters are spot on and consistent. The flow of the narration allows for the listener to forget they are being read to.
Give it a go, you won't be disappointed! I am hoping there will be a book 2!

A magnificent read!

Will agents Bex and Trent be able to keep Jake safe against relentless Sasha?
What unique powers will Jake be able to manifest?

What an amazing, enjoyable, interesting and magnificent read! I so got lost in this book right from the beginning - so hooking and compelling. The story draws you in, the narrator draws you in and you never want to leave this book - ever.

Such an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

The narrator definitely did a remarkable job of narrating this book - I got so engrossed in it that I forgot I am multitasking.

Mechcraft by Brian Fitzpatrick
Narrated by Meghan Kelly
Five Stars
I have to say this is not my usual genre, but I was really impressed with the storyline and concept. The story was full of action and held my attention throughout. I’m definitely looking forward to read more from Brian Fitzpatrick in the future. Meghan Kelly did a wonderful job on the narration. The story flowed from beginning to end. If you love YA SciFi or even if you are looking for something different this is the book for you!

So many questions

This book left me with a list of questions like 'why are children being sent out on missions while all the adults stay at base?', or 'how is it that only one child has been born to people with nanotechnology?' and 'how was it passed on, do the nano's duplicate?'

You're going to have to suspend disbelief and most logic with this book, but if you can do that, then the story is quite entertaining. The world building is well done and the characters are interesting and either likeable or dis-likeable.

There's lots of action, always something happening or about to happen. The book would make a good film.

The narration is excellent, the character voices are distinct and easily recognizable, and the delivery adds to the tension in the book with great pacing and a dynamic tone.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Firestarter Meets Terminator 2

This story is a coming of age story. As with all such narratives there are many drastic changes and adjustments to the world-view of the main character. These changes can be made even scarier when it seems that one's parents, mostly the epitome of normal, are hiding something.

The narrator's voice is soft and easy, but thankfully not sleepy. She does well with differentiation and the characters are easy to tell apart.

The book has some violence reaching fatal levels and some course language, thus PG to PG-13 if it were a movie. The story attempts to blend mundane and normal life and society with the futuristic and fantastic. If the reader has a problem with suspension of disbelief, this can create a few unforgivable discrepancies but otherwise the story is enjoyable and leaves room for more.

GOOD STUFF! MECHCRAFT!

Wow, what an action-filled story! Thought this was a very interesting concept, and I think both writer and narrator did it justice. Well written suspenseful story that's a great addition to the sci-fi genre. Jake is a teen who has someone others want... BAD. Will he be able to out-run those who are trying to get him, or will they come and take it? Definitely a great listen, I really enjoyed it, and will definitely be up for reading more in the series, as they are released :) What a world!
