Publisher's summary

A sexy and soul-stirring novel about love, family, and rediscovering what matters most by Melissa Foster, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe We Will.

When workaholic Boston attorney Deirdra de Messiéres is passed over for a well-deserved promotion, she takes a two-month hiatus to show her boss just how much he needs her and heads home to Silver Island. But beyond seeing her sisters happy, home is not where Deirdra’s heart is. She has no interest in their family restaurant, the Bistro, or reliving hurtful childhood memories, and absolutely no interest in spending a single second with Josiah “Jagger” Jones, the Bistro’s too-laid-back musician and chef. Sure, the hippie is hot, but he drives her nuts. The guy lives in a van with his dog, and he can’t even commit to a solid work schedule. To make matters worse, he’s always around. She needs to get off the island, stat.

Jagger has overcome his own personal trials to place stock in life’s pleasures: family, friends, peace...and if he has his way, one positively beautiful, absolutely uptight attorney. Jagger knows he’s the perfect person to help Deirdra deal with her hurtful past and find her way back to being happy.

A chance encounter leads to deep conversation, and night after liberating night, Deirdra lets down her guard. But neither has plans to stay on Silver Island. Free-spirited Jagger has wanderlust, and Deirdra has a career to return to. They’re on different paths, and plans for a future together don’t stand a chance. But when has anything gone according to plan?

Critic reviews

“The snappy prose—including a laugh-out-loud description of the van where Jagger lives (aka the ‘shaggin’ wagon’)—captivates, while Jagger’s gentleness and love for his autistic brother will melt readers’ hearts. Foster’s strength in creating smart, sexy contemporaries with a focus on familial bonds is on full display. This is a treat.”Publishers Weekly

Maybe We Won't

Maybe We Won’t by Melissa Foster, the third book in the Silver Harbor series, gave me all the feels. The series follows three sisters. Having read and enjoyed the books 1 and 2, I eagerly awaited the release of Deirdra’s story. I knew her story would be special, and Foster delivered as expected.

Summary
Attorney at law and Deidra Messieres, after giving so much of herself to her job while woefully neglecting her family and missing out on a social life, was overlooked for a promotion. Silver Harbor is the last place she wants to be, as it holds many painful memories. Memories she wishes would stay buried. But she came anyway as she wanted to prove to her boss, he couldn’t function without her.

She has no interest in getting involved in the family business. Neither is she interested in getting to know the drifter/ hippie who claimed to know her mother. After all, they have nothing in common. She’s a planner and workaholic, while he moves to the beat of his own drum. Fate, as always, had other plans, and soon Deirdra and Jagger would find themselves on a journey of friendship, romance, healing, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

My Views

Deirdra may be a confident Attorney, but when it came her personal life, she was the Queen of insecurities. She grew with the progression of the story. I secretly cheered for her with each page turn. It warmed my heart when she loosened the chains of unforgiveness and embraced all life offered.

Jagger piqued my interest after meeting him in the previous books. Well, Foster satisfied my curiosity in Maybe We Won’t. Learning about his past, his family and the events which shaped his personality, and his life choices was intriguing and enlightening. One can see why Deirdra found it hard to resist his charms.

I loved their romance, which was passionate, warm, sweet, authentic, and brimming with emotions. There was no faking the sizzling chemistry between them. I have to say they are my favourite couple from this series.

The camaraderie between friends and family added depth to the story. I loved how the author emphasized autism and the challenges faced by parents and siblings of the child diagnosed as being on the spectrum.

Maybe We Won’t delivered a romance to warm your heart, fill you with hope and leave you with a smile at the end. If you love the opposites attract trope, then this book will feed your desires.

Narration

I enjoyed listening to both narrators. Virgina Rose is new to me. I have listened to Aaron Shedlock before. Virginia did a wonderful job bringing Deirdra to life. Aaron was definitely the voice of Jagger. Their voices were distinct and done well.

Well told

A charming story that pulls the interest of the reader and makes us shake our heads at times snd cheer at others. The characters are endearing and unique, with enough spirit to go around and then some. I would recommend this story.

I loved this sweet book!!!

This was such a pleasure to listen to. Serious adult issues but still had fun and romance. Really the perfect balance for a book in this genre. This was my first time listening to Aaron shedlock and he was absolutely perfect for jagger. GREAT narrator. Now I need to go back and listen to Cait’s story—I somehow skipped it, but really enjoyed Abby and Aiden. In other words, listen to the entire series!!!

Melissa Foster does it again, another amazing read

I always enjoy reading one of Melissa Foster's books because I know I will dive into a world with great friends and family that you can't help but wish you were a part of and what makes them even more special is that there are times you can relate to one of the characters, and for me it was Deirdra de Messiéres. There are a lot of things we have in common and quite honestly I don't know if that's a good thing or not....maybe I need to take an island vacation and see. 😉

Deirdra has disliked Jagger from the moment she met him, and it's because she thinks he doesn't take anything seriously. Well, does she have it all wrong! I absolutely loved getting to know Jagger better his carefree attitude and love for music are just a couple of things that make this "hippie boy" so charming, what really endeared him to me was his dedication and support to his brother who is Autistic.

Can a workaholic and a person with wanderlust find happiness together, well there's only one way to find out. Grab a copy of MAYBE WE WON'T today!

This story is filled with all the feels, luckily I didn't find myself crying as much as I have in previous books by Melissa Foster but this one definitely pulled at the heartstrings. If you enjoy Steamy Contemporary Romances, Opposites Attract Romances, or slight Age Gap Romances (only 5 years) I would recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

Final book in series… sad it ended

I enjoyed this series and hearing about the same characters throughout each book. I didn’t like the last book as much as the other two. A lot of final books in a series are like this though because it is summing up everything that has happened in these peoples lives. I really liked what the author did with the last sister. Love, mystery, and a lot of laugh out loud moments You will definitely enjoy this book.

Surprisingly fun

For how uptight and cold Deirdra came across during the first two books, I expected this to be different to the other books in the series. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Jagger softened her edges, then broke through her walls, to bring out the feelings Didi tried desperately to hide from.
Although she thought she had him pegged, Deirdra quickly found out that there was more to the 'hippy boy' than she could have ever guessed.
Jagger was all kinds of wonderful. Kind-hearted, generous, honest, and free.

The longer they spent together, the more Didi changed.
She let down her hair, let go of her work, let go of the resentment she had carried around for years, and held onto Jagger with all she could. She was present with her family, present in the moment - it truly was a remarkable change.

Their connection was intense, their chemistry electric.
Despite them being almost opposite in their approaches to life, they fit perfectly together.

It was a magical story.
4.5 stars

Virginia and Aaron did a great job with the narration.
