Publisher's summary

What happens when a woman who’s done the unthinkable needs protection? Can a man who’s lost his belief in humanity keep her safe?

Max Brown doesn’t trust anyone but his team. The former SEAL learned early in life that people let you down - they lie, they steal, and they lie some more. Love is a word that is used to manipulate. Family is meaningless. Max is an island, and he prefers it that way.

A woman who needs a safe harbor but is undeserving.

Cyber genius John “Tex” Keegan rescued Eva Dawson, a single mother who was forced to do something inconceivable to save her children. Tex somehow sees the good in her, when no one else does. She is redeemable. Now, just when she’s getting her life back together, someone wants her dead. Tex calls in the Gold Team to help - specifically Max Brown, the man with a past that mirrors that of Eva’s.

A past that clouds the present.

Tex has a plan - he always does. But neither the protector nor woman who’s been marked for death make it easy. Neither of them trust, and both will fight to stay in control. If Tex can keep them both alive long enough, he knows the duo is the perfect pair - each of them will be what the other needs to heal the sins of the past.

Two broken hearts make a whole!

I love the alpha series. My only compliant is female lead repeatedly talked down on herself. I know it’s part of character but I think the wallowing in her mistake to Max was a little redundant. The storyline was good. I just wished she was bit more fiery not so meek.

Names

I know it's trivial but when he was speaking it was Ava and when she was reading it was Eva. It drove me nuts

Eva & Ava

I am a big Riley Edwards fan and look forward to many more books. My complaint is petty but it drove me crazy. The Eva then Ava between the two narrators. I understand she had different names but it was throughout the book.

The fall of the great Max

Wow. The fall of the great Max...the cantankerous, untrusting and broody team member goes into this mission hating Eva, but it really doesn't take her or her boys long to start worming their way under his skin. Eva has no love lost for the bossy man barging into her life either, yet her heart starts melting. And despite them wanting to fight it tooth and nail, they belong together with similar histories that make them perfectly matched to help heal them and the kids...they just have to get out of their own ways and admit it. As always Riley brings an emotional story with a tough heroine and broody no relationship man who quickly turns alpha protector but also shows the gooey center under the gruff exterior. With humor, especially in the loveable Zane scenes, and danger, action, and suspense this story is terrific. Amazing narration by Lee Samuels and Maxine Mitchells brings the story from the pages.

Story as always is excellent

She had to protect her two sons, especially from the father of them. So she couldn’t, no wouldn’t trust men… except one Tex and he sends her Max to protect her and her boys.
Max didn’t trust anyone except his teammates and their wives, and now he has to protect a woman and her two sons…….

Maximus

I absolutely love these series but with the writers imagination I would think they could write something without using GD and Fuck 200 times each story. Surely they have ability to think of something else. Yes I know military men curse but it could be limited to at least the dramatic scary moments of maybe someone being rescued. I really does show a lack of creativity in writing.

Nine hours 44 minutes wasted

During a 25% of the book, Ava (Eva) talks about how stupid she is. In other 25%, Max talks about having mommy issues. Other 25% of the story Ava (Eva) and Max are having the same fight over and over due to misunderstandings. The last 25% has “some kind of a an extraordinary weak story.
Don’t waste you time with this title. Choose other book!
