fantastic story richly narrated!

The characters are so beautifully and lovingly drawn. So many powerful women in one book! Yay for strong women!

Lyrical Submersion

This novel is a deep plunge into a time that, I dare say, few of us spend any reflection on until opening the covers of this book. But now it is permanently etched on ourselves and forms in part our forwarded thoughts. Some of the passages are so beautiful that they require listening to again, even though the subject itself may not be beautiful: cold, disease, poverty, injustice...
My one complaint with the narration is that the voice of 17y old Marie never sounded her age. I couldn't believe the voice until Marie had aged considerably.

Lots of lesbian sex. Not enough history.

Too much sex. Not much else. Felt like listening to soft porn. Not safe for listening in the car where anyone else can hear.

All female characters, lesbian love, catholic mysticism

I enjoyed the opening and middle of the story then it got old and I bailed out

Rich, Poetic, Powerful

Loved the book, as I loved Fates and Furies. Geoff is a master storyteller! Groff captures . Life in the 12 century and life on the convent is extremely well. The novel held my interest from the first page to the last,

Luminous literary novel!

Lauren Groff is a genius and is fast winning my heart as the finest writer I’ve read in years. Her versatility is amazing but here she gives us time travel and a character of totally pure warrior spirit and oceanic depth and mystery. Thematic complexity..perfection of imagery which takes the reader right into the heart of 12th century Britain.Matrix is a masterpiece!!!

Great historical vibe, but not much happens.

Easy read, and BEAUTIFUL narration in English spiced with Latin and french.
Intresting attempt at telling a story about a women's only community.

This Audible selection was a delight to listen to. The author's use of language was magical and the narration was musical. Thank you for this gem!!

Holy Mother of God!

I kneel down to this story- and it’s telling. Glorious in its words, emotions, passions, sisterhood, and themes of the power of story, and of women- and the consequences of our actions, and the attraction of power- and the power of attraction. And the, and the…

I was enraptured from the beginning to the very last words.

Beautiful and well written- if a little slow

The author has a gift with words and spinning them into gorgeous imagery and making the mundane interesting. This could’ve been terrible or worse, boring in a less experienced writers hands.
