Publisher's Summary

Love poker but looking for a change from endless No-Limit Hold'em?

Take up mixed games!

Mixed games are becoming more and more popular. The World Series of Poker features events such as Omaha 8-or-Better, Deuce to Seven Triple Draw, Razz, Stud High and Stud 8-or-Better - all of which are covered in detail in this book. There are also formats such as Dealer's Choice, H.O.R.S.E., and 8-game, which require expertise in many of these games.

Dylan Linde is a professional poker player and mixed games expert. In Mastering Mixed Games he gives a thorough introduction to each variant, explaining the rules and basic strategy before moving on to discuss advanced concepts. With this audiobook you will specifically learn:

  • solid pre-flop ranges and hand strategies
  • how to apply generic concepts to each individual game
  • how to recognize and exploit your opponents' tendencies

The basic themes of poker apply to all games and learning a new variant is, essentially, just understanding how to value new ranges in a new game.

Mastering Mixed Games will enable you to join the whole new generation of players who are exploring the weird and wonderful world of mixed game poker.

Content is great but not optimal for audiobook

I think the author is super knowledgeable about the topic and the content is great and well organized. Unfortunately this book is not well suited to the audio book format. Listing off numerous hand ranges and equities is impossible to follow without being able to look at the charts the author must be reading aloud. It's impossible to follow the action on the turn in a multiway Omaha pot when the author read the hole cards 3 minutes earlier and you have no easy way to refer back. This is no criticism of the content or the author's delivery, it's just that the content was not designed for this medium. It would be amazing if the author provided the charts and example hands as a supplement to audiobook purchasers so we could follow along while listening. I would have given 5 stars with this addition.

Doesn't translate well to audiobook

Content seems pretty good but maybe not much ahead of old mixed game training videos from 10 years ago. Impossible to digest as an audiobook as so much of it is hand examples, and how equities change on different streets. Street by street equity in a 3-way O8 hand isn't something you can take in by listening!

9/10

The best resource currently out there for mixed games.
I consume this content in audio so my only critique is when Dylan rattles off a bunch of hands like in 27SD, it's difficult to follow and the time dedicated to that chapter could be better spent (audio only). Maybe just reference a chart and continue. I hope there is a sequel.
