Publisher's Summary

To hate and to scold....

Derek Chambers, Marquess of Whitlock, has a problem: his wife. She is the single most horrifying aspect of his life, and the only thing he has ever enjoyed about her are their truly spectacular fights. As such, he prefers having as little to do with her as possible. So when she unexpectedly summons him to London, he surprises himself by going, and finds his life turned upside down in ways he never thought possible.

To loathe and to perish....

Katherine despises her worthless and irritating husband, and nothing bothers her more than the fact that he actually came to London when she sent for him. Worst of all, now that he has come, she needs him to stay. With her. And with his every smile making her heart race, she begins to wonder if there could be more to him than meets the eye.

Love grows slowly

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I would recommend it with the caveat that no men of rank who lived in the time of this story would ever have indulged in - or lowered themselves to - physical labor. I do not see how this anachronistic detail was essential to the story but perhaps the author wanted the hero to be able to show off his physique through a sweat-soaked shirt.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two protagonists played off each other very well. Moira, from the first in the Arrangements series, played a catalyst role in getting them to see one another in a different light

Which scene was your favorite?

Two were very affecting: When Derek watched and listen to Kate play the pianoforte and the picnic where the two of them gazed at the clouds and the sky.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Their last, ferocious fight and its aftermath of regret and sorrow in Derek and Kate.

Just OK

Interesting enough to finish, but not really to recommend. The conflicts were contrived. The dialogue and all the romantic scenes were redundant. The story could have been told in half the time. There were some grammar slip ups as well. The characters contradicted themselves. The ending was sudden and contrived. Also, it's completely unbelievable that 2 people could build a solid foundation of dislike and distrust over 5 years and then change all of it in 2 weeks. In my experience it takes at least 3 years to heal from every 1 year a husband and wife are assholes to each other.

Not as good as the first...

This was an okay book. It started off great, then towards the middle it got too wordy and repetitive. I was wishing for it to end which is never good. The plot was weaker than the 1st book. Kate's character was too much of crybaby. Again, her character started off cool and then didn't amount to anything. I know you're not supposed to compare books but Moira (1st book) was so unique and had character developement, whereas Kate did not (in my opinion). I think what annoyed me the most is that there was so much inner dialogue about what Derek and Kate were doing wrong but both they both didn't do much to change it until the very end.

Good

Good narration. good story. Gets a bit intense towards the end. I felt that the couple showed too much immaturity in handling their affairs

Clean and Nice

I like that this book focuses on a married couple. I like that it shows a couple overcoming their hardships and that it takes change in both to make it happen.

Liked book 1 much better.

I generally enjoy this genre, but I wanted to roll my eyes way too many times in this story.

Got worse as it went along.......

At first I thought this book sounded good, but towards the end this book got SO maudlin! I do not like books where the characters constantly ask themselves questions! It's a ploy that many authors in this genre seem to use, and this author, Rebecca Connolly, was one of them, unfortunately. And the two main characters, Kate and Derek, were such cowards as far as their feelings go. Neither could be honest with the other. And this play made the book drag on and on and on........ So a book that started out with promise ended up being a boring, dragged-out book. I wish the author had more talent and imagination. The narrator, Jessica Elisa Boyd, was very good however, and did all the voices really well. I did like her voicings of the various characters very much!

Excellent

Excellent entertainment with unacknowledged love, interfering relatives and a fire in the house to bring everyone together.
