Dr. Woititz, in her first, breakthrough book addresses the spouses of alcoholics who feel overwhelmed and desperate in their marriages. Her focus is to show that the boundaries of isolationism and depression that living with an alcoholic brings does not necessarily mean one cannot eventually find piece of mind - whether or not the alcoholic continues drinking.

Marriage on the Rocks can show you the coping skills you deserve to have when alcoholism impacts your life.

Great self help book for anyone living with an alcoholic. She definitely knows what she is talking
about.
The narration was terrible however.
She tries to imitate peoples voices in the story, which does not work. Her voice is nice to listen to without trying to copy her clients voice's. Other than that I would definitely recommend!

Good self help book

Would you listen to Marriage On The Rocks again? Why?

Yes, just to catch anything I may have missed the first time.

What did you learn from Marriage On The Rocks that you would use in your daily life?

As a person just beginning to come to reality with what may be happening, this book is INCREDIBLE! I've read a multitude of articles and done research, but this book covered everything and brought it all to light for me. I've just started counseling, both by myself and couples and left more confused than ever after only the one "together" session. This book helped me figure out where the counseling is going with both my spouse and myself. Just the realization that the problem is THEIRS and not MINE was great. I've been beating myself up and feeling guilty about not letting it get to me just to figure out, that I have been doing exactly the RIGHT thing. Yay!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this book.

Any additional comments?

This book was published in the late 70's so expect some dated observations around the gender roles. Overall good information. The narrator did not work for me. Why do many narrators feel the need to dramatically change their voice when doing "others". This narrator did what I have heard way too many times in giving "others" a southern, hick, slow drawl (for male or female) that is so unnecessary. An alteration of the voice is not always necessary. The book would have been tolerated much better otherwise.

Good information albeit dated

Wonderful book. Very straight to the point. No sugar coating anything. It gives excellent to both the alcoholic and suffering family member.
