I was on the fence about listening to this one at first. It didn't seem too much like my style. I was wrong. After listening to it, I can say I was definitely impressed. This is a fantastic ride from start to finish and the nattatitn really knows how to make a story come to life. I was hooked from start to finish. Well done!

Crazy Emily

This is another one of Jon Athan's gruesome masterpieces. Wow, what an imagination. Emily is totally obsessed with Lorenzo and Jon's take on it is horrifying. She was nuts OMG, especially the way she tortured Monica and what she did to Lorenzo. I could not imagine the pain. Matthew E Berry did a great job with the narration. Woah!! I did not expect that

Normally I am skeptical but this title delivered in every aspect. I am impressed with the author's story telling abilities. Give this book a listen if you are on the fence. You will not regret it :)

Grisly and plausible

The most frightening stories are those that could actually happen. This novel delves into that world. obsession meets scorn

What a Crazy Ride

In my head while listening to this I pictured Emily as Jodi Arias. What seemed like his response to Lovesick, Athan responds with an equally sick and twisted story that pulls you in immediately and takes you down a dark and twisted road. Those familiar with Athan's work will know what to expect, those who are not familiar be prepared for graphic horror, obscene moments, and a crazy story that will keep you glued to your headphones.


Emily and Ren are interesting characters, although the story really focuses around how quickly Emily spirals out of control. Don't not expect Shakespeare here, what you get is brutal and graphic violence and lots of torture. Emily is absolutely crazy and goes to bizzare lengths to win Ren back, in a twisted sort of way I can understand why she thinks these drastic measures could work. Her finale is totally insane yet so good. While I would like to think there isn't anyone this crazy, it seems quite plausible to me.


Matthew Berry did a good job with the narration. I felt like it took him a chapter to get into the flow of the story, but once he did it worked out great. I like his character voices as I felt they really added to the story.

Misery, on Steroids

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And, wow!! If you don't mind violence, gore, and extreme dark, then take a psychotic dark extreme ride with John Athem and Matt Bary that you won't soon forget. I won't lie. This is a disturbing read. It isn't for the feint of heart. And, you better not be squeamish at all. Because, I promise, you're gonna be in for one heck of a surprise. This makes Stephen King's Misery book like your grandmother. You root for the end of the villain here, hoping they reach the demise they clearly deserve and you almost want to cheer as it unfolds. But, I gave it that 5 star rating for the performance Mr Bary gave, and the gripping way the story grabbed you, and iank iti teeth into you, (literally) and didn't let up until the very climactic end. I hear Mr Athem has another novel in the works. I'm curious to see what sick twisted madness emerges in his next book. Call me curious for sure. This ranks up there with another book, and the author's name escapes me now, but it was A Season to Taste. It's morbidly dark and twisted but you just can't leave it alone. I know this won't be for everybody. But, if you like a dark extreme jolt to the system, and something a little different, give this one a munch. You won't regret it.

Truly insane and a little heart breaking.

The man was wrong for getting mad at her for that in the begging of the story. If i was the man in the story i would talked to her calmly and nicely and then i would say "we need sometime apart I'll call tomorrow." and give her a second time but with some rules. but overall insane and sad.

Unlike any book I’ve ever read

I just finished listening to man eater and I am struggling to come up with the words to describe the story. Yes it’s about a girl whose boyfriend breaks up with her after she’s caught poking old and his condoms and going through his phone and this girl Emily can you take being broken up with nor does she want to except it After she is relentless in her pursuit to get him back he goes on a 10 day trip to Japan with his good friend just to get away from her and all the trouble she is causing. This in turn causes her to blame everyone but herself for their break up and she is out for revenge. Now this sounds like a normal book right? It’s not… If you don’t have triggers when you start reading this book you may want it is over. This book goes above and beyond disgusting, despicable, gross and into overwhelming. They were times I had to fast forward when I knew what was coming. Especially with poor Monica OMG, OMG! If you like the truly horrible read this book If you like books that push the limits read this book I highly recommend this book if you are into horror and don’t forget gore yeah the B in to go or do you like this book. Either that or you have to be good and fast forwarding LOL! I highly recommend this book despite it being so twisted I have to say I couldn’t stop listening. As for the narrator Matthew Barry I listen to a book series that he narrated and I loved his voice when I saw him now rated this book I was a little leery because of the subject matter, but man he did a great job so awesome!

Obsessive Psychopath

Definitely not recommended for readers who are faint of heart and those upset with sexual situations. There is much gross and disturbing torture/violence and sexual activity. Author is one very sick puppy with a vivid wild imagination but great with disgusting/twisted/repulsive writing. This book is about Emily who is obsessed with Lorenzo and becomes a crazy psychopath after their break up. She tortures and kills several men and women in violent was as well as becomes a cannibal. Recommend to those who like offensive horror with good narration as well as his books Dr Sadist and Lovesick. I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review Thank you
